Sydenham's Most Welcome New Business of 2006 Award

19/01/2007

Dolphin Pub Sydenham
The New Dolphin as you will rarely see it
Unless you are the very first across the threshold at opening time!

Getting a table is fast becoming the major complaint about Sydenham's transformed Dolphin. Within a month of its opening on December 5th the Dolphin has become the destination of choice for many Sydenham families. And many of them are three generation familes eating and drinking together for the first time in SE26.

Michael & Violetta have taken their experience of turning round Forest Hill's Dartmouth Arms into quickly creating a relaxed, informal and inviting environment from what was not a pretty space. While many of us having being looking for a place like this - we also wondered whether there would be sufficient clientele in Sydenham - and more importantly would they regulary use it? No fears any longer. The New Dolphin is here to stay and grow. Redevelopment of the rear garden is promised by Easter and thought is being given to how best to use the space in front of the pub for summer.

It is evident that The Dolphin is full when other local pubs are empty. No doubt others are eyeing the success and thinking about giving them some competition. Michael & Violetta will have to be on their toes to maintain the lead they now have. For us - this could be the start of the transformation of Sydenham Road into a more diverse place to eat and drink to match the diversity of people who live in SE26.

So, as Site Admin, I've decided to give The Dolphin our first "Most Welcome New Business Award". Its virtual, of course, so it won't clutter up the bar. I hope it helps generate some more new businesses for 2007. If you know any - let us know through the Town Forum. We might even make it into a democratic vote at the end of the year.
