The £23.5m Forest Hill School rebuild
opens on 13th March 2008. This is part of Lewishams £70m Grouped
Schools PFI programme that includes the rebuilding of four other schools within
the Borough. Facilities inside the new striking yellow building include a
250-seat community theatre, music rooms, recording studio and a 600-seat
performance space in the main glass-covered atrium.
Forest Hill School in Dacre Road is paradoxically
Sydenham's local boy's school as Sydenham School is Forest Hill's local girl's
school.
The school had a reputation in the past as not being
Lewisham's finest. However, as the 2007 Ofsted Report shows the very dramatic
improvements that have been achieved in the last few years. Improving much
faster than the national figures and now one of the best schools in Lewisham.

Forest Hill is a specialist school in performing arts
with 1,300 pupils of whom 200 are in the sixth form. Ofsted rated the school 1
(outstanding) and 2 (good) in all but one category giving a rating of 2 (good)
overall. The report concluded:
"Forest Hill School is a good school, with some
outstanding features. Pupils and parents are overwhelmingly positive about
their school, and they combine with staff to give a strong sense of 'our
school'. One parent wrote: 'The school is lucky to have such a dedicated staff
and particularly the headteacher. He taught me in 1974 and he is as passionate
about the school now as he was then'. Pupils talked about their teachers being
'knowledgeable' and 'passionate', and these qualities underpin the school's
success in ensuring that pupils achieve well. Good teaching predominates, and
subject leaders recognise that their next challenge is to improve still further
the way in which they involve all pupils in assessing and improving their own
work."
