News: Car Crash in Lawrie Park Road

28/11/06

Lawrie Park Avenue car crash

The London Air Ambulance was scrambled to a serious road accident on Tuesday afternoon. Two cars had collided at the junction of Lawrie Park Avenue and Lawrie Park Gardens one ending up embedded in one of the great trees that line the Avenue towards St Barts Church.

Only the two drivers were involved. One was attended by a paramedic while the other was more seriously injured and is being extracted from the far car in the picture above. Police at the scene described the injuries as apparently not life threatening - perhaps due to the airbags that had deployed in each car.

Lawrie Park Avenue is a wide road which is prone to speeding motorists. The junction with Lawrie Park Gardens was the scene of many accidents prior to the erection of give way signs about ten years ago. This incident will, doubtless give rise to more calls for speed calming measures. Its a dificult choice - to prevent high speed drivers but also penalising law abiding drivers. Do you have a view?
