Keeping Shop: Portrait of a High Street

An Exhibition of Photography by Ann Pownall
Kirkdale Bookshop Gallery 12th July - 1st September 2007

This is an exciting Community Project involving local shops and businesses in Sydenham "High Street". Just as Victorian and Edwardian photographers captured their own eras, locally based photographer Ann Pownall has created a 21st century record of Sydenham's shops and their staff.

Celebrating the diversity and vibrancy of a living high street, the exhibition also forms an important archive for future generations.

Ann Pownall was born in Huddersfield and has lived in Sydenham for the last 15 years. Ann has only recently taken up professional photography studying at the London College of Communication in 2005/6. This is her second exhibition folowing on from Stomp@Bullingdon documenting theatre workshops in Bullingdon Prison.
