The days of the Rag
& Bone man may have disappeared along with Steptoe & Son.
People are still
offering a door to door collection service. At least with Steptoe you knew you
were giving it to a guy whose purpose was to try and make a few bob for
himself.
Concerns have recently
been raised by the activities of a number of companies who appear to give the
impression they are doing it for the benefit of the third world or other good
causes. Some may give the impression of charitable organisations.
Seabeach are currently
leafletting Sydenham. Seabeach's earlier leaflets used the same wording as
another company, now defunct, called Orellana featured in this Guardian
