Re: A couple of Cash Machine warnings
There do appear to have been a spate of these cashpoint robberies; my sister witnessed one first hand. Fortunately, she had a phone call today from a detective and the police have now made several arrests.

Re: Sydenham Tyres
No idea. I can’t say I’m particularly aware of the issue. I was merely pointing out a piece of relatively obscure legislation that I’m not sure many police officers would be aware of that the premises may be guilty of that could be brought to the attention of the neighbourhood police.

If they are repairing cars in the street (and it’s not an emergency) it is an offence under s.54(1) of the Metropolitan Police Act 1839.

Re: Worst local transport journeys?
Southern trains from Sydenham to London Bridge have given me meltdowns on a couple of occasions when I'm late for work or knackered on the way home and having to deal with last minute cancellations, endless delays and just going straight past Sydenham on the way home, meaning I've needed to get a t...

If you are paying this chap for insurance but he hasn't added you to the policy he may well have committed fraud or theft. I would contact the police around this specific issue.

Regarding the Canada Water interchange - it is often quicker to go into the ticket hall and back down to the Jubilee

356 from Forest Hill Station to Bell Green -evry 30 minutes after 7 pm but not necessarily on time and no countdown on most stops. If you save the URL for "live bus departures" in your phone you can get the countdown for any bus stop in London. Very useful: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/buses/...

Re: LEWISHAM COUNCIL PLANNING ENFORCEMENT DESPAIR
Lame excuses from the Police who indeed should have intervened. HOWEVER... this does show how ill-advised it is to purchase a flat over a shop. What should the police have done? I can’t see anything in the original post that is a police matter save, possibly, a dubious criminal damage of a scratche...

Re: The Golden Lion
I used to be a regular in the Golden Lion until I moved away in 2010. I have popped in once soon after the refurbishment and it wasn't to my taste, I found it pretty generic and lacking in character (I prefer the old-fashioned "boozer" feel) I couldn't make any major complaint. However, I ...

Re: Noise in Lower Syd last night
I'm struggling to think what council workers could do effectively even if there were a 24/7 flying squad if a complaint is of a one-off party or concert, assuming besuited with a clip board and no affray or violence or otherwise criminal act is in play and assuming easily outnumbered by revellers. ...

Re: Noise in Lower Syd last night
Well you did your best Chris Best.... A lengthy, verbose and largely unhelpful response. The next question you might ask is "what happens when someone does manage to fight their way through all of this and actually registers a complaint?" Well, if it’s a noise complaint, nothing. Because ...

Noise complaints are not the responsibility of the police. They have no powers to deal with noise. You need to contact the council.
The failures of the 101 line are wholly unacceptable, however.

Re: St Philip Neri Meeting - Thursday 19 July 7pm
I think it is quite shocking that the Archdiocese of Southwark refused to send a representative, or to co-operate in any way with the planning department. They don't appear to believe they are subject to civil authorities, and ignore all attempts to contact them. They have not acknowledged or proce...

The @NPASLondon twitter feed says they were searching for suspects in a burglary in the (London Borough of) Bromley. That could have been it as you are close enough to the border.

It’s perfectly lawful to allow your horse to soil the highway and not clear it up.

Farewell, where are you off to?
Also, just because you leave Sydenham it doesn’t mean you can’t frequent this place. I left 7 1/2 years ago but never really left here. (I do still have cause to frequent Sydenham every couple of weeks, however)

It's pretty disgraceful isn't it. I never did get a reply to my (several) emails to the se23.com admin. It appears I have now been permanently banned without any communication whatsoever.
