Re: Bakerloo Line Extension

Also thanks to Likelife. Most informative forum post this year would get my vote. I'm also guessing that installing the extra power rail would cause a year or more's disruption to the Hayes service which, with few alternatives, make it a no-no. Also unless phase 2 is part of phase 1 the new Bakerlo...

Re: Bakerloo Line Extension

Wow. Thank you so much, Likelife, for your very clear account of issues relating to the Bakerloo extension; it's given me loads to think about. No problem. Lifelike - I am impressed. As I wrote, "rail planning is something I tend to leave to others, because it is so technical". I'm not su...

Re: Bakerloo Line Extension

The Bakerloo is the museum of the Underground. It has the oldest fleet in service (1973), with no plans to replace before 2030. The frequency is only 20 trains per hour, probably could reach 24 at best. For any extension, the signalling for the entire line would need to totally be replaced, costing ...

Re: Been to The Greyhound yet?

My partner and I went it recently and it is a nice place. However, after spending £13 on two drinks - which even for London is quite expensive and not even sitting down for a minute at a non-reserved table for 2, a member of staff came up to us and told us we were in the food seating area and if the...

Re: Toys R Us

Sad to see Toys R Us going, I did apply for a job there before I went uni. Ended up at John Lewis instead. John Lewis at Home would be perfect, from experience I know people go quite a long way to reach one. However, I doubt it would ever happen because of their future Westfield Croydon store. Baker...

Re: sticky: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

Plans for the frontage look really good - thanks for flagging. Does anyone know if they plan to tidy up the rest of the building - clear up the graffiti etc? It would be nice to see the rest of the building brought into use too. I've been wondering this too. Nice to get a flag on the pole too, hati...

There has been a lot of car damage in Lower Sydenham recently too. Broken windows, mirrors, etc.

Re: New yoga studio?

We've had a few problems with the Lewisham council's website recently. I suspect it is a matter of officers just not having the time, and lack of resources to pay for support from the IT suppliers. Planning departments, like so many others, are desperately under resourced. At the risk of going off o...

First was “..we’d love to be able to open a store where you suggest. We have a specialist team who are always on the lookout...” Second response from a different employee was “I’ve updated our system with your proposal suggestion, fingers crossed you’ll see an M&S in this location at some point...

Re: 2018 wish list

I don't see anything really being done over traffic on Sydenham High St. If anything I think Bell Green will be seen as more of a pressing issue; the LWR Syd railway bridge is totally unsuitable and Bell Green junction is a mess. --- I've just been on the Smith Price letting agency's website. The ol...

Re: old budgens

The electricity bill for all these months is still a lot cheaper than ridding the premises of squatters or paying for damage caused by arson which would have been a lot more likely scenario had the lights not been turned on all this time. That's a fair point, hadn't thought about that. As discussed...

At least it isn't for crime. I expect Sydenham to be highlighted a lot this year.

Santander's Sydenham branch is closing

Hi all, a family member just got a letter informing the Santander will be closing on 28th June 2018. According to the letter, Beckenham and Catford will be the closest, making it sound like Forest Hill is going as well. They won't be missed by me (I closed my account with them after several problems...

Re: New Builds on Sydenham High Street

I'm curious to know whether anyone else has an issue with this development being done by a Guernsey registered company No, not really. If the UK wants to crack down on tax avoidance it shouldn't allow its Overseas Territories and Crown Depdenances be Tax Havens. I can't blame someone for registerin...

Re: Sydenham wish list

Route 352 is Lower Sydenham to Bromley North via Beckenham and West Wickham. Very useful, runs every 20 mins but takes far too long considering how close Bromley actually is. As I live right in the heart of town I walk 10 mins down the road to Penge East and get a train (more frequent than the 352) ...
