Re: Low water pressure

Oh great, thanks for the info. Should hopefully be sorted by now, more or less, then.

Re: Food bank

Seems to me most Sainsburys, even the little local ones here and at Clock House, have a food bank collection point. Not so sure about Tesco's. Waitrose does as well. Probably doesn't exactly harm their sales, either.

Re: Low water pressure

Boy, the water pressure was low this morning. Switched on the shower so I could wash my hair, and the low-pressure warning light immediately came on. No water.

Re: Ideas for Christmas day

I was also going to suggest that Churches Together in Beckenham covers the "other side of the tracks", but in fact I can't see any indication of any coverage any further into London than Penge Congregationalists. I wonder what all the other churches the other side of Croydon Road (Penge) do?

Re: Ideas for Christmas day

I think Holy Trinity Lennard Road used to host a Christmas meal - not sure if they still do.

BTW, if you want to get involved on a longer-term basis, I believe the Penge Homeless Shelter will be operational in the New Year.

Re: Food bank

I think there might also be one at Christ Church Anerley, but am not sure. I know there's a notice outside Penge Congregational Church telling you where the nearest one is.

Re: Black cabbies in celebration.....

Yeah, wrong side of the river, innit?

I thought they weren't allowed to turn down a fare within a specified distance without good cause, but perhaps Sydenham is outside that distance from central London.

Apparently we had it earlier, too, so it must have hit the Penge side.

New Co-op? Where?

(Don't be taken in by appearances. I found the lovely new one down at Eden Park was a bit of a disappointment)

Bromley Picturehouse

Just made a trip to the new Bromley Picturehouse (the former Odeon/ABC/Empire/Cineworld depending on how long you've lived in the area! - near the Magistrates' Court) for the first time: they've done a fine job on it, restoring the Art Deco aspects, with stadium-style seating in the screen I was in,...

Re: Gulls are arriving

I spotted a couple of parakeets when I was walking along Venner Road yesterday. If they're the "parrots" Rod refers to, they're a good distance from Mayow Park! ... And they were squawking in the trees down at the junction of Newlands Park and Lennard Road when I went to catch a bus earlier. And to...

I'm very relieved for him. But yes, Beckenham Waitrose is a rather odd place to select! No alternative exit, for a start.

Do children in this area generally go out on Halloween for Trick-or-treating?
I hope not. Mind you, I'm going to be out, so won't know anyway.

Done up all in grey, at least on the outside, now. (I thought I read grey was very last year?)

10 to 11, and all seems quiet now. Not sure whether they've actually finished, or whether they've just moved up or down the line out of earshot :)

Re: Working on the railway?

Ugh. I'd forgotten I'd started this thread. They're working on the Sydenham line today, and no notification to residents, so I hope that means they'll be finishing before the time people are expected to be going to bed, because it's quite loud. The sound's bouncing all round the "toastrack" area aga...
