Re: Car Jacking - Drivers Attacked with Guns and Knives

Reading the reports, it would seem that changing the heading to "guns or knives" might be more accurate? Bad enough, either way.

Re: Southeastern trains - how are they?

There are probably quite a few boys going to Dulwich College on those trains, too! I think there are 3 from Penge East between about 7.30 and 7.45, but haven't checked since the timetable changed in December. They may not stop at all stations, though. I think the service is generally quite good, alt...

Re: New shop opening?

Not necessarily saying it’s anyone’s fault but although we do have some great stuff on our high street, we have far more empty units (many of which are empty/unused consistently for years) then nearby places like Forest Hill and Penge (why is that?) From my experience of walking down Penge High Str...

Re: 75 and 194 buses on diversion

And lo and behold, no sooner are the buses back again than there's another diversion through Penge, for the 363, 122 and 202, I think it was. Does that make sense? Must be quite some diversion.

Re: 75 and 194 buses on diversion

And I walked down Parish Lane early this afternoon and couldn't see any signs of water works going on, so I don't know what's happening. Buses are still on diversion, though. Duh! I must have been taking the shortcut through the alley by the railway all this week. The works are virtually at the jun...

Re: 75 and 194 buses on diversion

It's very poor, isn't it? There are no hoods or whatever you call them on the bus stops either, so you really have to look closely to realise that the buses have been diverted.

If anyone's driving down Parish Lane, do report back on what, if anything, is happening.

Re: 75 and 194 buses on diversion

What a mess. The TFL website claims that the buses are diverting via Kent House Road, but in reality they are going round Lawrie Park Road as usual. And I walked down Parish Lane early this afternoon and couldn't see any signs of water works going on, so I don't know what's happening. Buses are stil...

Re: 75 and 194 buses on diversion

And once again, Thames Water work on Parish Lane (I think) means that the 75 and 194 are cutting out the route from the Newlands Park junction round to Penge. Diversion in place until the work is completed - whatever that may mean.

Re: Where do people dispose of their lightbulbs?

The only local place I'm aware of is Churchfields Rd recycling centre in Penge. Which is Bromley Borough, and you technically need a resident's permit to use it. Bromley now have a collection for small electrical items, which includes the new-fangled bulbs which you aren't allowed to throw away in ...

And that could be said of a lot of services which people try and reduce to the lowest common denominator of cost :(

Congratulations to them: I hope they'll be here for a long time to come.

Re: Sydenham Estate agents

We had a dispute with Pedder, who revealed confidential information to everyone in our street and tried to ignore us until we complained to the Information Commissioner. So we will never use them again. We would consider one of the online groups instead - they’re so much cheaper. I'm no fan of Pedd...

Surely when a woman goes to M&S or wherever, the bras say what size they are. No idea how online works for that really, but M&S are notoriously poor at fitting bras properly (They told me my back size was three sizes up from what it actually was at the time, which sort of fits, but isn't as good fo...

Did you know we had a choice of six? Re: Food bank

Seems to me most Sainsburys, even the little local ones here and at Clock House, have a food bank collection point. Not so sure about Tesco's. Waitrose does as well. Probably doesn't exactly harm their sales, either.

Boy, the water pressure was low this morning. Switched on the shower so I could wash my hair, and the low-pressure warning light immediately came on. No water.

Re: Ideas for Christmas day

I was also going to suggest that Churches Together in Beckenham covers the "other side of the tracks", but in fact I can't see any indication of any coverage any further into London than Penge Congregationalists. I wonder what all the other churches the other side of Croydon Road (Penge) do?
