Re: Lewisham's mayoral by-election

51pc of the vote on 20pc turnout = 11pc of the electorate. What a dog's dinner.

"Morley's: The family-run chicken shop with cult status"

What a story! Had no idea that 1) Morley's was a chain and 2) it started here in Sydenham. Also, Stormzy.

Re: kinleigh folkard & hayward

Wrote this mock review on a bored trip into town a few months back having seen KFH's truth-stretching signage once too often. Guess it's finally opening, so too late now. Anyway... --- A bold art installation that challenges its audience to consider preconceived notions of time and language has ente...

Re: Boundary commission - Sydenham to combine with Dulwich

All this angst about boundaries, none about multi member districts. We always tend towards the issues about our democracy that the established powers are happy for us to discuss.

Thanks Jack for replying, the magic words (well, letters) “STV” sound good to me.

Re: Who's standing in the Sydenham by election in May?

Afternoon Jack, good to see you taking questions and your answer about dealing with the procurement of GLL is a particularly interesting one. I'd like to ask your personal take on proportional representation as it relates to councils. 40 per cent of voters actively vote for someone other than Labour...

Re: Petition. Lewisham isn't working: end the directly-elected mayoral system now

Another genuine question: can individual London boroughs vote to introduce proportional representation in the same way some have brought in mayoral systems instead of leader-cabinet? Such a system in Lewisham would break 60 per cent Labour to 40 per cent other party councillors (based on the most re...

So indeed, the internet at its best - potentially! Very glad that you've responded Supreme, and I'll happily return should future reviews posted here report the problem resolved. Hopefully, whichever part of the supply chain was at fault will not find themselves dealing with any unexpected additiona...

Re: Any news on Mamma Dough?

It was open when we drove past today, circa 3:00pm. Looked great! Presumably a 'soft launch' - no promotion on Twitter - but the Sydenham Mamma Dough is now offering its own 'specials' on the Mamma Dough website. Just no Deliveroo option for now.

Re: Supreme Fish Bar

To my mind this is exactly what a forum discussion *should* be - a way to alert others to issues they may find useful. In this case there's no alleging that my cod wasn't cod - it simply was not cod. And it's good to see that word is clearly getting out about this issue, even though it is disappoint...

Re: Supreme Fish Bar

Can't speak for whether this is a permanent change of management - but I can similarly say that this new team sold me a piece of fish that most certainly wasn't the cod I ordered. So that's it, another takeaway bites the dust.

Shame, really - It's been very good in the past.

Re: Lewisham Election Results

"If it really is a stronghold, then no amount of marketing or proportional voting would make a difference." I'll respectfully take issue with that one point. I've now downloaded the results. Based on nothing but party votes allocated proportionately, the seat allocations would have been (r...

Re: Lewisham Election Results

Agree to a point Stuart, in that we were served up the most insipid, poorly considered option in a referendum on (national parliamentary) elections by a Lib Dem party clearly looking at its own short term gain at the expense of any long term impact. And indeed, voter apathy is the issue. The questio...

Re: Lewisham Election Results

I haven't looked at the results but I can tell you one thing without doing so - borough wide, around 40% of those who voted did not vote Labour. The way people are represented at local and national level continues to embarrass. Our electoral systems force absurd majorities rather than the calculated...

I see the bar's gone in, with workers working on it on Christmas Eve. Very weird timing to all of this, but the bar's inclusion has to be a positive sign.

Has something happened to it since last night? Looked pretty good then, although it did seem to me inevitable that the lights will get played with. Twig? Perhaps there's another one. Is this the one set top by Skanska at the top of Queensthorpe where the Christmas trees are being sold?

Re: Proposed Constituency Boundaries

No problem with reducing total number of MPs (although total in the Lords a much more egregious problem). But more marginals? Elections being decided purely on marginals is a distorting disgrace. Only one question should ever be asked when setting up an electoral system — why should where someone li...
