L&Q mass housing repairs

Slightly surprised this hasn't yet come up in the fora. We're leaseholders and are getting our place's exterior refurbished as part of the L&Q stock transfer. Does anyone who's already been through the process have any experiences to relate? [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://sydenham.org.uk...

Re: PC screen help required

the display on my laptop is gradually being degraded by vertical lines, which appear to be increasing in density over time. Any clues ? screen resolution settings etc ? Or is this a forewarning of imminant PC demise ? ali b Not all of it, just the LCD panel. Could be anything from loosening connect...

It's called "rain fade" in the biz. Rain fade affects very high satellite-link frequencies more than lower-frequency Freeview signals (and our Freeview reception in Sydenham is about as good as it gets with Crystal Palace blasting away in clear view). To add to this, satellites are somewhe...

No worries, Trawlerman! I have two - very simple - desires of my high street. 2) That it sells stuff I genuinely can't get more conveniently elsewhere. Which is either top-up food buying (where the food isn’t rotting), a nice meal, a drink, a hair cut, or a bank. Simples? Always blows my mind that ...

I am aware that this process has proceeded far too far down the road of "progress" to be remotely consideration-worthy, but why was it never mooted that the GH parking lot, or a lrge portion of it, be taken over via compulsory purchase to provide parking for all the new train passengers us...

BTW - why couldn't they spell 'Neighbourhood' bit correctly when it first became that? Is it an Americanism or could someone genuinely not spell? Or am I just missing some obscure point somewhere? And how do you pronounce it? I've heard some important person at a meeting say 'Nabberhood', which sou...

Any news ain't necessarily good news

Why is it that Sydenham is always coming up the stooge in newspaper stories? - sheep molester seen bothering the livestock in Bromley. traced (i don't want to know how) by police to Dulwich, whereupon the suspect claims it's his twin brother living in Sydenham. Of course he would say that and of cou...

I also voted at St Barts and saw them write on the back of my ballot paper. Again I didn't think about it at the time but now realise I have been disenfrnachised by bureaucratic maladministration. I have written to the returning officer about this as I think that this is incedidilby serious. Had th...

Irregular ballots in Sydenham?

Just watched BBC London news and there was a story about spoiled ballots at Kennington and Croydon polling stations due to voting officers writing voter registration numbers on the back of ballots. Apparently, they not supposed to do this. Now, I voted this evening and they were doing the same at St...

Update to the "What's Best For You So Listen Up Mexican Restaurant Guide": Newish Wahaca (sic) in Covent Garden is very good. It's a tapas-y place like that place in Notting Hill, but they have an interesting selection of small plates (and brilliant refriolitos - essential) and prices aren...

Montecassino Restaurant

Went Saturday night with friends to see what it was like having taken notice of it several times since moving here 3 yrs ago. Have to say we had a really good time and the food was very good. The restaurant was more than 1/2 full and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The proprietor was very...

I'd have to agree with the review, it's a GREAT pub to be in and drink, the back garden is a great asset to Sydenham, but the food is too fancy for its own good...just good quality food is enough rather than the usual pies in a put with exploding pastry lids that normally get bought en-mass frozen ...

<rant> Stopped by last Saturday and walked right out at light speed. What a disaster. 'Guantanamera' at full blast, huge emphasis on drinks (typical for phony tex-mex dives) and quiet possibly the most disgusting food menu i've ever seen in a Mexican restaurant. In fact, the way Mexican food is port...

Damp-proofing contractor?

Seems like everyone's getting geared up for some springtime repairs! I need to speak with a reliable/reputable damp-proofing contractor. Any recommendations out there? And , no, I won't ask at the Railway - i would also like, to expand on requirements, a sober damp-proofing contractor! Pretty fed up...

Limescale out of Kettles and cleanin the WC!!

We just fill the kettle from a jug of filtered water (brita, etc). 3 years going and only a very small about of scale. I've got to try that denture tablet idea, just so long as the toilet doesn't greet me like it does when i use Harpic!
