Waitrose would be superb but the only improvments I reckon we can look forward to in the short-term are £2 shops......

Gara Masala - the new Indian in Sydenham

Hi folks Always ones to try out a new eatery in the area - the wife and I tried the new Gara Masala (formerly Bengal Spice) on the High St on Saturday, and it's good. I had a stunning chicken and cashew curry, while the wife was very impressed by a fish dish. The staff are really friendly and the wh...

leenewham Judging by the plans - it's not the work new development I've ever seen. I can't say i envy some of the new residents view though, (the railway line) or location, (opposite the urine-soaked underpass). I dare say the developers will give both features a suitably glossy spin. http://www4.le...

Back to the question of demolition. Judging by this link, the site at Perry Vale won't last long.

Alternatively, just come along to Homecroft Rd and dump it at the end - everyone else does. The council will pick it up, usually only once the pile has reached a good size. Two more sofas were added this weekend. There's certainly no risk of getting caught as the council won't put cameras there or b...

Just look down the High St. Nearly every other building has an Acorn or Property World sign saying that the placehas been let or sold. If that is the case - why not take the damn signs down!

Let's face it - the High St has enough eyesores without nasty plastic signs everywhere.

Joking - oh no I'm not. Maybe they only come out at the weekends but there were a plenty of us wearing them on Saturday. It wasn't obligatory but after a few cocktails it was hard not to join in.

Puerto Mexico - Ariba ariba!!

Sydenhams new Mexican............ it's fantastic Just thought I'd say that the missus and I went last night (Saturday) and had our best night out in Sydenham for ages. The food was great (and reasonably priced), the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere was suberb. Like half the other custome...

We moved to Sydenham three years ago and have never regretted it. The trains are safe and pretty reliable - the High St is scruffy but has a useful mix of shops - best of all though is that it's friendly.

I fully support our local traders, in fact, my weekly shop comes largely from the High St, (see my past posts). The point is, support works both ways and Londis clearly doesn't have their customers' best interests at heart. If they did, they wouldn't be raiding neighbouring shops for cheap stock, th...

Leaf et al

The price of cheese is not the issue here - what I object to is the way Londis are cynically exploiting the reduced stock at Somerfield to line their own pockets. OK, it makes good business sense but it clearly illustrates what Londis thinks of it's own customers.

PJSON is right - what Londis is doing is very shoddy. OK - we're only talking about the price of cheese, but the point is, once the bargain stock is gone, it's gone. Their selfish behavior is depriving people of a bargain, purely to line their own pockets. It might be capitalism at work but for gree...

If you see that Community Officer again, please send him to Homecroft Rd. Hopefully he won't break his neck on the uneven pavements, and with a bit of luck, he might have more luck persuading the council to tackle the problem we have with fly-tipping here.

Hi JoeP Thanks for flagging up the site. To be honest, no matter what you report to Lewisham Council, you can guarantee they'll ignore you. I've reported the flytipping on Homecroft Rd on numerous occasions - it's cleared eventually - but they don't take steps to stop it happening again - or try to ...

Greg I quite agree with you about CP. When my partner and I were looking for a place to buy two years ago we looked at both CP and Sydenham. The properties were all similarly priced and of a similar quality - we chose Sydy. The High Street here is scruffy but the area as a whole is a nice place to l...

Juwlz Amaretto is Amaretto and £3.10 a pop is a lot. As for the enviroment being worth the price - OK, the Dolphin is much better but let's put it into perspective - It's in SE26 not EC1 - It's had a makeover (minus the toilets) but the lights still look as if they're hanging off the ceiling - And a...

OK, The Dolly is a big improvement but £3.10 for a single shot - no way!! I pay less than that in the West End where there isn't a Lidl in sight.
