I love supporting local establishments but I found this place disappointing. We had an assortment of pizza & pasta between us one evening and found it all rather bland.

A shame, as the staff seemed to be very attentive & pleasant.

Picture Framing

I wonder if someone could point me in the direction of a decent picture framer around this area? (Sydenham/Penge/Beckenham/Norwood/CP/Anerley/Bromley would all be fine). I have a lovely poster of Elvis Costello's My Aim Is True cover which needs a frame. Or mounted & varnished (my wife's suggest...

Blimey, and am now reminded why I lurk more actively than I post. That was a pretty argumentative reply nork1. I was only letting any reader know I thought it was a pretty good pub/restaurant. I wasn't wanting to start another tiresome class war debate. It's a good pub, does great food, it's local a...

Perry Hill Pub

OK, it's not strictly Sydenham. But it's close enough, and a local for anyone in the lower Syd/Bell Green area. I know it has been open for a while in its new form, but I only got to try it last week. Food was superb, really well cooked. Staff were unbelievably friendly. Inside and out the pub looke...

How odd, that people in Lawrie Park Road were connected after 9pm whilst here in Venner Road it was around noon. Still, we had a nice relaxing morning in the garden, and then an unsuspected treat - doing the weekly food shop in the Savacentre which was practically deserted. this was at about 3pm, an...

Well, we took the long walk up to the Woodman on Friday to see what had happened to it and were (in the main) pretty pleased. The only comparable place in SE26 is the Dolphin. I've nothing against the Railway, the "Two Half's", the Golden Lion etc, but they don't seem comfortable, relaxing...

A fish & chip shop? Seriously how many new years resolutions would that break? I live in Venner Road and use both Penge East & Sydenham train stations for commuting purposes. Coming out at Penge East to the smell of fish & chips (there is a pretty good chippy in the parade just outside t...

Yes, the dry cleaners have appeared to put up a new sign which looks like a bit has fallen off exposing wires behind. Only when you get close do you see it is a photo of garments on hangers. Not good. In fact the shopfronts are almost universally poor all the way down from the station to Bell Green.

Most excellent. The article namechecks my road (Venner) without mentioning the knee high dog poo. That should draw the hordes in from Forest Hill & Dulwich. I'll have to purchase a 4x4 or something & get a few cases of Chardonnay in to celebrate.

It was closed last night. We went for a drink in the Dolphin's garden...and that was closed too.

Still, they were having a pub quiz in the Dolphin, so it wasn't all bad.

Garden well and truly open - I popped in for a swift pint with my dad on Sunday lunchtime. It was great, drinking San Miguel in the sunshine, I could have been in Benidorm. I cannot think of a higher accolade than that.

Having lived recently in Crouch End and Brixton I reckon Sydenham could be considered average. In CE the most trouble you'd likely encounter would be psychotic mum with a 3-wheeler buggy. In Brixton you'd get drug dealers and prostitutes following you if you merely glanced at them. Sydenham seems pr...

You have probably found out already, but Lewisham do accept applications from out-of-Borough. We are on Venner Road, which at the top end is Lewisham, but at our end is Bromley. We have applied to several schools in Bromley and one in Lewisham. As it happens Bromley were approx 6 weeks faster in pro...

Reliable Gardener Recommendations?

Hello, we are trying to find someone to beautify our front garden. We have had a few people come round so far but all have either declined the work - (citing illness and extreme workloads) or priced themselves well out of our range. The work is not challenging - a couple of brick walls, some digging...
