Re: Lewisham approves keeping Bridge Leisure Centre closed
Managed into the ground and now residents suffer the consequences. I used to take my first born there for swimming lessons. Brilliant teacher left because of the mismanagement. They wouldn't run a class if they didn't have 3 kids, so you'd end up arriving to find out you just had to walk home again....

Re: how to get out of this mess
I've heard a lot about claims of increased suicide, with no evidence offered to date. Here is a chart showing how lockdown impacted on self harm admissions. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EqqgP0fXIAIzSzq.jpg https://twitter.com/john_actuary/status/1345072645960855555 And a very interesting illustration...

Re: Sydenham council by-election
Would be nice to see something other than Labour, just to break up the domination, which is rarely a good thing for democracy. Although I don't think I could ever vote Tory myself... Meanwhile, the Lewisham website declares: "No Council by-elections until further notice On Government advice, th...

Re: New homes for Sydenham Hill Estate?
It's a shame, these days, that you seem to have to be for all development, regardless of how it looks on a road, in a conservation area containing some pretty lovely looking old houses/ mansions, or against all development of any description. If only there was a middle ground where you could support...

Yeah. My dad had Polio. Spent much of his early school years in hospital and lost the use of one arm for the rest of his life. But it's ok, because he learned to live with it...

Re: Gentrifiers
On google maps, it looks as though the junction you have indicated is closed to traffic, probably to stop rat running, with a fire gate blocking the road. It appears to have been this way as far back as 2008, looking at streetview and the bollards have had blue 'bicycle only' signs on them since 201...

Re: Bell Green Travis Perkins
As an HGV lorry loader driver currently commuting to Mitcham every day, I’m pleased that TP have made plans :) Yes you’ll see articulated lorries unloading on a daily basis but I don’t see it as being any different to the other companies already situated on that site. There's a Travis Perkins in Fo...

Re: Bell Green: A SydSoc view of s106 Monies
They were supposed to fill it in and then start chopping it, but I think as they had the cranes on site they chopped a few bits out while they were still there. Perhaps they anticipated the first holder taking longer to dismantle? They finished it off by smashing the last level up, so there was a lo...

Re: Bell Green Masterplan Presentation at Bellingham Assembly
Can't see any reason why they shouldn't ask SGN to postpone, if the frames, or a portion of them could be used to add character and heritage to the area they are hoping to regenerate. Must be better than saying nothing as they are melted down for scrap and then coming up with an idea for them. Parti...

Re: Supreme Fish Bar
If they are passing off a cheap fish as cod, perhaps it needs to be reported? There’s the possibility of a public health risk there, i think. I’m so sad to read this - we’ve been getting our fish there for more than ten years. It was alway fresh, tasty and HUGE. One way to start a vicious rumour an...

Re: Queensthorpe Road Smart Bench
I like the benches and have used the charger at the one in Bell Green. Quite frankly, the bus stop a few metres away is the biggest piece of clutter in the area, slapped down in the middle of the pavement, barely passable with a pushchair even when people aren't sitting on the wall. Another sterling...

It was a scooter, widely referred to in the media as a moped, although that classification requires a small engine and, in my mind, pedals.

Re: Wasps Nest
Just had one killed off in the eaves. £60. Lewisham Council. (£30 concessions). Rentokill online quote was nearly £300. Only had it done because we have two small kids and they (the wasps that is), apparently get a bit aggressive once the nest dies off naturally late summer/ early autumn. https://ww...
