Re: What has Jim done

He brought the London Overground railway to this area. For years before the line was built JD put a huge amount of effort into bringing the railway to this area - when others had given up on the idea or thought it too ambitious a plan. I was in the H of C at the launch of the new line when Network R...

Re: Reduction in services from London Bridge

At the moment commuter trains (not long distance intercity trains) are only officially late if they do not arrive within five minutes of their scheduled arrival time. The government, quite correctly, aims to tighten these rules in two years time to financially penalise companies who consistently bre...

Re: Reduction in services from London Bridge

Sending letters or emails to Southern simply isn't going to have any effect. At the height of the crisis earlier in the year at Victoria and London Bridge stations when Southern services almost ground to a halt, Southern received over 5,000 emails and letters of complaint per day. It didn't solve th...

Re: Late Knights..coming soon?

Some fairly wild guesses to date! Here's mine - 173 Sydenham Road (corner of Hazel Grove). Formerly the Man of Kent pub (more recently the Premium Snack Bar, then a legal/estate agent office). Has downstairs storage for beer and a small rear outdoor space. http://pubshistory.com/KentPubs/Sydenham/Ma...

Re: Building site on Sydenham High Street

You are correct to flag up the fact that all being well (!) we should see three major sites on Sydenham Road underway this year bringing extra footfall, housing and jobs, not to mention a better look to the high street. However, the good news is that the "Nickell's Blinds" site proposal ha...

Re: Thorpes Residents Association

We would be delighted to see anyone at the AGM who lives in "central" Sydenham. The Thorpes Conservation area includes Sydenham Road and parts of Mayow Road as well as the Thorpes. We've already extended an invite to people from Girton/Tannsfeld Road who have just set up a new resident's a...

Re: 24 hour Overground service in 2017?

I'm sure that it is going to happen - but it's not such great news. The service will run from Highbury & Islington to New Cross Gate only. And of course what is being proposed is a weekend only overnight service (Friday and Saturday nights). It means that within a few years, south-east London wi...

Re: SUNNYDENE BUS STOP

I've had a reply from Lewisham's head road engineer. The reason that a long central island was constructed was to help the school crossing patrol and pedestrians contend better with a busy 2-lane section, which I think is something we'd all like to see. However, he is going to see if his colleagues ...

Re: SUNNYDENE BUS STOP

TfL can be difficult to work with but it's important to stress that they only oversee the project and provide the funds. Detailed drawing up of any scheme (under LBL supervision) is down to LBL traffic engineers. When I was walking down there yesterday I was startled to see that a long "central...

Re: SUNNYDENE BUS STOP

Agree with you Lee - this has been playing on my mind since I first saw it. Of course it's a good idea to widen the pavement in front of the flats - but there's also enough room to build a slight indent for the bus stop so traffic can pass. I'll talk to the traffic engineer tomorrow.

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

The developer has told one of the other two parties who have a financial interest in the site that a "number of pub operators are keen on taking on the business". The core group from the Rebuild the Greyhound Campaign have spread the word and have organised a number of meetings with prospe...

Re: Building site on Sydenham High Street

You'll see a digger currently working behind the blue hoarding. The site owner has agreed to "tidy up" the site before Christmas - no building work will take place before the application is considered by LBL Planning in January. If the application is passed (and I am confident that it will...

Richard - you're not going to get away with undermining the huge benefits of the Bakerloo Line to this area by implied threats that the Bakerloo Line will provide less capacity than the existing National Rail trains. You say that " A significant number of the additional Bakerloo trains would be...

Rachael - agree with you about TSR Marketplace. Had an excellent chicken stew there last week which was so good I went in again on Saturday and ordered the same thing. Re: Overground - first five carriage train arrives!

You don't have to be a statistical genius to realise that our local trains are extremely busy - just get on a train, especially during rush hours, and you quickly get the message. But I don't think it's totally sunk in just how quickly the demand for train travel is growing in our area and how the e...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I met the Lewisham Head of Planning just two weeks ago and he reconfirmed to me that his full expectation was for the pub to be completed by April 2015 but that he intended to ask for clear "building method statements" to ensure there could be no deviation from the agreed plan. This was co...

Overground - first five carriage train arrives!

This morning I attended an event to celebrate the arrival of the first five carriage train on the East London line. This train will go into service early next week and two more five carriage trains will be introduced each week. This means that by March 2015 all 24 trains on the East London line will...

This is a second communication from the developer. The first letter from the developer in response to the council's threat of legal action arrived on the day before the last M&C meeting on 22 October. We couldn't see it for commercial reasons but John Miller, Head of Planning summarised its cont...
