Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic
I agree that there might be better uses of the money but both those roads are rat runs at the moment and I have lost count of the times someone has nearly run me over at the junction of Silverdale and Sydenham Road in particular. As for school safety, I think better than crossings would be some enfo...

Re: PFC Penge Food Centre Sydenham Road
They’re definitely gouging - don’t go there often but their prices have rocketed since lockdown started. Not sure it’s a sensible long term tactic - they have plenty of local competition in the form of both the regular supermarkets and similar ‘ethnic’ places (though I do sometimes wonder whether th...

Re: Camping in Mayow Park?
Yes, I wasn’t hoping they would simply be booted out - was posting it here in the hope that the Councillors who look at this would see it (but sort of assuming that the people who maintain the Park would report it upwards anyway). It clearly isn’t appropriate for people to camp in a park - especiall...

Camping in Mayow Park?
Anyone know whose tent it is, pitched next to the tennis courts? Has been there for a couple of days at least.
Slightly concerned that someone is so desperate as to camp in the park, but also assuming that if someone was doing this they would be moved on?

Re: Speeding around the thorpes
Get this all the time late at night with the speeders using my street as a cut through. On the plus side, the ugly gang of sods on quad bikes and scooters who used to go up and down the high street running lights seems to have vanished - perhaps some of them are serving time (hope so anyway).

Re: Begging around Sainsburys Local
There’s another quite aggressive older guy who wanders up and down the high street telling people he needs to get the money together for a hostel place - 50ish white bloke with grey/white stubble. Quite nicely dressed for a beggar. Gets quite pushy when told (politely) that the answer’s no. Tries to...
Re: Mad Dough
Already been a couple of times - staff very friendly and food very good, so can’t fault it. Seemed busy both times too, so fingers crossed that will continue. Opens 8am so may get coffee on days I go past in the morning.
Re: Mad Dough
Just round the corner so will give it a go, but I worry they’ll struggle because the passing trade isn’t that great in that location compared to the high street and food places down here have struggled historically (apart from the takeaways further down with their very annoying habit of parking on t...

Re: High water pressure?
Thanks - it’s not the boiler as that’s on normal pressure (1 bar) and the problem is when the cold taps are on. Waste of time asking Thames as they will deny it I think, so looks like I need a plumber. Water meter was fitted in April, so a little while ago- current issues are recent.

High water pressure?
Anyone else notice this (lower Sydenham)? Pressure is so high pipes are rattling and am worried this is going to cause some kind of leak in the end - has happened before when Thames have been doing work, and their map online shows work at Kent House Road and Perry Vale. Last time they denied there w...

Re: Knighton Park Road
I also live in KPR (to state the obvious). To some extent I agree with John - parking can be hard to find at the Sydenham Road end, especially in the daytime on weekdays and sometimes on Saturday. Sundays are usually much easier. This is down to a Hexagon to a great extent - I see them get out of ca...

It’s still in better shape than the Bridge, which is getting seriously delapidated...austerity has gone far enough methinks.

Re: Knighton Park Road
I think it looks good - definitely better than what was there before. Impact on parking is a concern, but the answer would be residential parking (as discussed here before - a lot of the pressure on parking comes from Hexagon et al). Hopefully the shop will be something long term - not sure a restau...

Re: Supreme Fish Bar
Not sure it’s actually changed owners - a lot of local businesses seem to share staff (e.g there used to be a guy who worked at Supreme who also worked at the large Istanbul with the car park). They have a new gang of Turkish staff in there though who don’t seem to be as on it as the last lot, who w...

A shame, but not sure I agree with those saying the service up to now has been brilliant - slow, tatty and borderline incompetent would be closer to the truth.

Re: Park Court Rubbish - Knighton Park Rd
Pretty sure this has been covered here before - this has been an issue for as long as I have lived in the street. The owner had promised that following the refurbishment there would be more bins and so fewer problems with rubbish all over the place. Turns out not to be the case - realistically a bui...

Re: Lewisham council being difficult - Jay Rayner In Deptf
Interesting article about level of approval of planning applications in London boroughs - according to the graphic at the bottom, Lewisham is the worst inner London borough and in the same bracket as some of the nimbyest outer London boroughs. Seems to back up the anecdotal stuff that gets posted he...

Yes, the cops have come to the unsurprising (when you think about it, and with the benefit of hindsight) conclusion that it is foxes - backed up by CCTV of several foxes carrying cat heads, bodies, etc. Mostly roadkill, but some predation. Someone from SNARL on telly tonight asking why this only hap...
