Have you tried shaking-down any of the local allotment holders, Iris?

I normally loathe the Grauniad, but they're the only source of media covering recent developments.

Re: Daniel Morgan Murder

I suppose it's too simple to think that there's simply no hard evidence? I suppose it's just a coincidence that Sid Fillery - who, at the time of the murder, was a serving detective with the MET - was moonlighting for Morgan and Rees' private detective company Southern Investigations. Also, don't y...

Re: Daniel Morgan Murder

My guess is that the investigation surrounding the murder of Daniel Morgan will never bring anyone to justice. The reason being that it has been mired by corruption, cover-ups and stalling from the very beginning.

Re: Kirkdale stories?

One of the last cases of impressment (press ganging) took place in Sydenham in 1812. In 1986, Arthur Radleigh was digging-up the bottom of his garden in Venner road, and he found what he could only describe to the local press as a large, strangely shaped key. He was advised by friends to have it exa...

I've got some genuine scandal/stories of interest concerning Kirkdale that I can substantiate with written evidence. How much will you pay me for how many words?

Re: Upper Norwood Library

You're part right, it's funded by Croydon and Lambeth (not Southwark) councils; but it's not part of either borough's library service. It has its own policies and procedures and is managed by a Joint Committee of councillors (four from each borough).

Re: Upper Norwood Library

It's a private library that's funded by a trust or charity (I'm not sure which) and thus falls outside of the authority of any council. This means they will require more than the usual assurances.

Re: Squatters have just moved in

This is going to be a very costly mistake for someone who left the site accessible. Not necessarily, ALIB. I think we're all focusing a little too hard on the negative aspect of what could be a lot of fun. OK, the building has been occupied by squatters; but what's to say the owners - if they were ...

Re: Squatters have just moved in

Generally, I don't have a problem with a bunch of art students or vegetarians occupying local authority housing, but squatting in privately owned property is taking the piss. The official channels that exist to combat squatters occupying an empty building are very drawn-out and arduous proceedures; ...

Re: New “shop” on Sydenham Road

It makes me titter btw BBW that someone accused of (or myself being accused of) posting in another frock should be castigating someone like Eagle for a similar presumption. ..... which is not to say I can understand why someone would bovver with posting in more than one ID ..... it entails going to...

You know BBW - I always presumed they were the same! I rumbled the crafty old rascal many a moon ago, Mummycat. It was his "pounds GDP" that betrayed him. But I like the guy; and he certainly knows how to put a cat amongst the pigeons. Although I can never be sure whether or not it's intentional. A...

Ralph, From what I've seen, there's no "political bloggers" attacking this forum. Don't the Bank of England oversee this kind of thing? Failing that, the only recommendation I can offer is the scrap metal merchants.

Re: Urbexing Possibilities in Sydenham

I'm sure you know that lots of 'meanings' get widened. I can't see how anyone could misinterpret what I've previously quoted you on. It's black and white. Squatting is the illegal occupation of a building. 'Urbexing', on the other hand, is primarily focused on exploring/trespassing, not seeking a p...

Re: Urbexing Possibilities in Sydenham

Does 'urbexing' also include sussing out property for squatting? No. As far as I'm aware, it's more about the exploration and sensation of being inside a building that's been abandoned for a lengthy period of time. The more controversial the building is/was (power station, ex-military or a jail etc...

Afternoon, Steve. The partner of the woman who lived below me when I lived in Forest Hill used to do this kind of thing, and I was invited to tag along on a couple of occasions. I went along to the notorious Cain Hill Asylum in Surrey, but we just had a nose about and didn't take any pictures or wri...
