Begging is certainly illegal. Section 3 of the Vagrancy Act 1824 makes it an offence:

If it is bothering you or she is bothering/intimidating people in general report it to the Safer Neighbourhood Team at Sydenham.SNT@met.police.uk or on 101.

Re: More helicopters lately?
The @mpsinthesky account changed over to a new NPAS Twitter account when the air support unit was transferred from the Met to the National Police Air Service. It is a lot less informative and interactive than it was when it was a Met account.

Re: More helicopters lately?
I think drones are definitely going to be the future Stuart. I'm just not 100% that they can cram in as much technology into a drone yet as they do in the chopper. Some of the capabilities in the helicopter are absolutely incredible. I'm also not sure about a drone's endurance versus a helicopter. F...

Re: Dishwasher folly!
I resisted getting a dishwasher for years but got one at the start of the year after working out that it was actually more economical and environmentally friendly than the washing up bowl. Ours uses a ridiculously low quantity of water. It's honestly transformed the washing up routine and made life ...

Re: Parking problems
If it works out cheaper and/or more convenient for them then it is common sense rather than selfishness?
Perhaps the people who park near local shops disrupting people who are trying to get to work are selfish, to use the same logic

Re: Parking problems
Mont Sorry you misunderstood. I was saying ought to be controlled parking throughout Sydenham to deter the selfish station all day parkers. Why is it selfish to park on an unrestricted public highway? The person who parks there has just as much right to park there as anyone else. If you want a guar...

Re: Zanzibar- Licence revoked
Just like if people move next to a club and start complaining about the noise. That's fair isn't it? Unfortunately the law doesn't agree with you on that point, as per my earlier case law I quoted. As for your point re any nightspot getting complaints if it were to be located there: I don't think t...

Re: Zanzibar- Licence revoked
While you can see the problem with this: I move to London because of buzzy nighttimes, I am rich and manage to move to the most buzzy area, I then complain about the noise. It's not nice is it? All this noise? I didn't expect this? That's detrimental to lots of organisations and institutions that p...

Re: Hideous racket in Lawrie park area
I must say, I've never understood why some people like to have music is loud that you cannot have a conversation. Even if you want to dance music doesn't need to be overpoweringly loud. So, why do some people insist on excess decibels?
Can anyone shed any light?

Re: Hideous racket in Lawrie park area
The police have no powers to deal with noise complaints. Call the council: they have the statutory responsibility to investigate. Don't hold put much hope of them actually prosecuting though: I did an FOI request a short while ago asking how many prosecutions they undertook v the number of complaint...

Originally they planned to have the power back by Thursday but its all on already, word has reached me that they have somehow hooked into the main line.. I have taken meter readings in case they have done what I hope they have not. If this does prove to be the case ... theft of electricity is not o...

Re: Parking problems
As someone who lives in an area of very restricted on-street parking that often means we can't leave the car near the house I struggle to understand the ire. It's a public road. You do not own it. The person who lives elsewhere pays as much for that road as you do. I fail to see how outrageously sel...

Re: Closure of Lawrie Pk Road
Isn't that a bit of an abuse of process though? The reason they need to make an order and specific date/length etc is, presumably, to give people notice etc. If they are just issuing a "blanket" order then it surely defeats the point and allows them to close the road when they like for how...

Re: Thinking of moving to Lower Sydenham
Mormead Road is really on the Bellingham Estate: a large sprawling 1920's(?) development. It does have some issues around anti social behaviour etc. but, then again, what areas don't.
Go for a wander late afternoon and into the evening and get a feel for the place.

I can second that. I grew up having my hair cut at that shop and even after I moved out of the area in 2010 I still went back quite often to have my hair cut by John or Michael. Nice chaps.

Re: Car in Venner Square
Where am I when I am needed? Not in Sydenham as often as I used to be. Is it an offence? Probably not. The two relevant offences that potentially spring to mind are: Taking a Conveyance (s.12 of the Theft Act 1968) - but that would require it being moved for "someone's use". Just moving it...
