Re: Moving to Sydenham

2lai - Another nice insight into should be the upcoming bumper edition of the Lewisham Ledger which has a special feature coverings Sydenham. I believe a lot of the issues over the past years regarding noise where secondary to the former Zanzibar nightclub at Cobbs Corner which has been closed for s...

Re: Ignition Brewey needs our help!

Just thought I’d pop on here that although not the most glamorous of outdoor spaces Nick from Ignition let me know that they are planning to have some outdoor seating soon. Lovely pint of their cucumber/celery guest beer (which is much nicer than it may sound) in the sun and people watching yes plea...

Re: Moving to Sydenham

Where boundaries lie you could very easily squish any two areas together and that is the case for everywhere I would argue. People will say where they live based on what they think makes their place sound nicer, “than cooler” or more valuable etc not necessarily what area it is actually in or it’s n...

Re: Refurb at the station / bye bye turdis

Only had a quick read of the poster on the way in this morning but I thought implied it was closed for good (in which case I can’t see the point of the unit staying there!). Might have read it wrong and they are refurbishing it/moving it or whatnot and agree without toilets at stations these things ...

Refurb at the station / bye bye turdis

From the Sydenham Society Newsletter: Enhancing Sydenham Station The Sydenham Society and the Sydenham Assembly are working together to improve Sydenham Station and entrances. Helped by a grant from Arriva, a group of volunteers has already begun work on station enhancements. The idea is to brighten...

Re: Bottle Cave

Just wanted to give a shout out to Bottlecave and the young man who seems to be staffing it regularly at present. A really lovely and knowledgable chat every time I go in and his knowledge appears to expand across the range of beers/ales/stouts (as sort of hoped/expected) but also across the wine/bu...

Re: Moving to Sydenham

Right - to get back on topic.. I’ve already had my wee say generally about living here but just to give some stats on crime (as it’s something spoken about by quite a few people here) rather than subjective hearsay (including my own as I did admittedly say from personal experience). The following ar...

Re: What's up with Cherry and Ice??

Not sure but I passed a few days ago and the signs have changed and now say they are finishing up the final touches (assume a refurb of sorts has taken place) and are open in a week - not sure how long those signs have been up for so possibly reopening this weekend?..

Re: Kent House Leisure Gardens Open Day

I’d recommend going even if only to get fresh local honey. Absolutely delicious stuff with different flavours from different local beekeepers (including the ones based there). Apparently good for hayfever if a sufferer and looking for potential aids!

Re: Moving to Sydenham

Good luck on the potential move! Echoing everyone else really - been between FH and Syd for 3.5 years and now been between Penge and Syd for 2 years. Never felt unsafe in the area. Unfortunately every area will have various elements of crime which may or may not be reported on depending on various t...

I’m pretty sure someone told me the back of Beckenham place park has lovely bluebells but not sure if it’s at the scale for what you’re looking for?!

Re: Trees at the back of Fairlawn Park

I have a similar thing with pretty much the largest/highest tree I’ve ever seen at the back of the garden almost directly behind ours therefore very close to our/neighbours back fence. It’s a large house split into flats I think. Due to the position of the sun it only blocks out sun for a few hours ...

No problem at all Dotterz. Geocaching is great for exploring areas (especially the ones in parks/trails/historical places rather than the ones around busy roads) and we tend to do a couple when bored and a nice day, part of a walk or whenever on holiday! Glad you and the little one are enjoying it :)

Aggggges ago it was reported to be an Iceland. Then as you said Chris Best politely replied to a tweet I sent saying a “discount retailer” should be signed off etc within 6 weeks. At the meeting I went to last year Chris Best wouldn’t say which retailer although someone else said it was Iceland - no...

Re: What's up with Cherry and Ice??

Agreed. Always been a fan of the coffee, atmosphere and staff generally and they do host events nights which aren’t available elsewhere nearby (eg: debate night, gaming competitions). Very glad and relieved there wasn’t anything more to it than a holiday/refurb.

Couldn’t agree more with the above - we went a few weeks back and had some lovely wine, coffee and delicious quiche and cake and stayed longer than anticipated just enjoying the relaxing surroundings (might have just been lucky it wasn’t full of kids that day lol!)
