Real competition would be a proper pie and mash shop.Bring back real, original London 'fast food'; not yer new-fangled commercial concoction.

If you want a 'sub' [What on earth?]...Make your own. You really don't need a diagram!

I think a really decent pie and mash shop would be an excellent addition to the Sydenham culinary scene. Proper pie and mash + liquor...Lovely.

Ok with the sausages. But how about the return of a proper wet fish shop first?

Sydenham was home to a proper wet fish vendor some years ago.

As I have said...Borough Market is good but pretty steep. I could hardly catch my breath when I saw the price of the Belgian beers on one of the stalls! There's a pretty good place that sells pork pies. Excellent pies, but ...I reckon you could get prime organic sirloin for the same price-per-kilo a...

Ahem...I thought it was John Major who, for some strange reason, got Edwina 'fired' !!

Let us welcome the demise of more 'gaudy vendors' to be replaced by vendors of taste. But, where would the gaudy vendor patrons go?

Couldn't agree more, Bram.

Also, look at the publicity when there is an accident on the railways.

Road deaths [around 3,000 a year] are unremarkable.
Tragic.

The facts are clear. WHY we seem blind or unmoved by those facts is worthy of discussion.

Ulysses,
The 352 can get you to Beckenham from Sydenham Sainsbury's.
Not a bad little route.

I agree, London Bridge [Borough] food market is pretty good. But it is rather expensive and it can get very crowded, especially at this time of year. My advice is know what you want and get there early.

Yes, it looked terrific. You can see that shops in the past looked 'class'. The architecture 'above' was matched by the shop front 'below'. Today this is rare. So many shops at street level look rubbish or just 'cheap' or flashy. Aesthetics are invariably sacrificed on the altar of 'new' and 'modern...

Let us take care not to knock 'pets' or people in council housing.
I'm just for 'knocking' four-footed dangerous weapons and the 'people' who choose to own and flaunt them.

We need to modify and / or curtail particular kinds of behaviour. Not tar everybody from certain areas with the same brush.

OUCH!!...mikecg, I read 'The Grouniad' and I'm positively petrified of G*d. I was just speaking generally. Of course those who are trying to be stupidly personally offensive need to be dealt with. On the other hand, in a reasonable debate points made need to be supported. Generally I think the forum...

Yes, I think I have repeated myself, myself...But still a valid point, point. Oops... These dogs are in effect, weapons and status symbols for the idiots who own them. And, those same idiots are more than likely to be those who don't clear up after their pooches defecate all over our pavements. Dog ...
