Re: 278 - 280 Kirkdale

The investors are aware of my posting; I have been waiting for the pile driving to start before posting.

When they read Sydenham Town Forum I'm sure they will be pleased to find a welcome for their plans from local residents.

278 - 280 Kirkdale

Some good news for Sydenham and to pre-empt any speculation: On 22 November the owners of 278-280 Kirkdale (vacant site adjacent to Sydenham DIY) advised: "With all of the planning finally approved, the Kirkdale site is progressing very well now, albeit you may not think so as you walk past! I ...

Re: Girton Road Car Park

Have you seen what has been left behind? Pity the poor operatives who have to clear up the mess - and the Council Tax payers who will foot the bill whilst seeing their own services being cut back. One of the local retailers tells me that the order banning them from Girton Road is not for a "one...

Re: NO TRAINS THIS WEEKEND

The Bridge is due for replacement and has been since 2011. Recent information was that this would happen in October and the all rail lines under the railway bridge would need to close while the work was done. It has not been done this weekend so we will have at least one more weekend of rail closure...

Re: NO TRAINS THIS WEEKEND

Could it be for the new footbridge replacing the one between Sydenham Park and the German Church, Dacres Road, due to be installed this autumn? It's already two years overdue but was promised for October 2013.

Hallowe'en in Sydenham

What a great evening! What a fantastic atmosphere! So much fun and enjoyment! Well done to everyone involved - the children, the parents and grandparents and all the traders/businesses who took part. There must have been 300 children parading up and down Sydenham Road in all their Hallowe'en finery c...

Re: Crystal Palace Subway

Thank you for posting the pics of this "Open House" weekend event, Tim. As one of the "Friends" organising this weekend's event can I please ask those who do not have a time slot not to turn up on spec. The applications for the rare opportunity to visit this amazing forgotten pie...

Here I am again - not quite signed off... Hairy Biker I am happy for Admin to "remove the dig at Tim" - I can't, although I tried after it was posted - over you, Admin - pl remove. Here is the "head in noose" bit for everyone who wants to be included with everything at an early s...

Neighbourhood Planning for Kirkdale

I said I would not post again on STF for a long time. However there is a danger that the first report on last night's discussions by someone who attended the whole meeting may get lost. It was an important meeting and the initial posting on STF by someone who stayed for only 10 minutes was totally i...

Re: Kirkdale Masterplan

I really cannot believe the huff and puff and negativity spouting from Tim. For the record - this Neighbourhood Planning meeting was a SEE3 meeting, following up the SEE3 Horniman meeting a fortnight previously which Tim did not attend. Last night, apart from several members of Sydsoc and FH Soc the...

Re: Too Many Estate Ants - what about Betting Shops?

I can't be bothered to read Tim's long spiel.

He is obviously not going to retract. He's so obviously right and, as usual, wants the last word on this subject. I shall let him have it - as he is so obviously right.

So he was.

Maybe when he surfaces he will remember I'm still waiting for a retraction.

Re: Too Many Estate Ants - what about Betting Shops?

As Biscuitman says it is the A3/A4 retail units which, without an Article 4 direction, are threatened by change of use to Betting shops, Cheque and Pay-day Loan shops, Pound shops, etc. As part of the objection to Paddy Power taking over the Wimpy we are asking that Lewisham Planning consider issuin...

Re: Sydenham improvement works

You are right, Mary, I raised the matter several years ago. Question was - could not the 18 Lewisham Wards share the cost of a chewing gum machine over 1 year out of Assembly funds spread over the 18 wards ? Response this idea would cost £50k for machine and operative. End of subject, sadly. I, pers...

Re: Too Many Estate Ants - what about Betting Shops?

Correction, Michael - Sydenham Road Core Shopping area (although an extension to the Thorpes Estate)is not under an Article 4 direction - the Thorpe Estate (residential) is.

Still waiting for Tim to retract

Re: Too Many Estate Ants - what about Betting Shops?

" Left shimmy"? Thanks very much, Tim. I've lived in Sydenham for over 40 years and this is the first time I have ever been accused of a political bias. I am not, and have never, joined a political party during this time (let alone before), as I have not wanted to have any label put around...

Re: Too Many Estate Ants - what about Betting Shops?

Biscuitman, you are correct, as usual - I was thinking about the recent changes and plead guilty of trying to simplify matters. No, I am not suggesting that (a), (b) and (c) will arise. I am pointing out that objections against issuing a licence can only be made on very limited grounds, in the same ...

Re: Too Many Estate Ants - what about Betting Shops?

It's Licencing at Lewisham, not Planning. Objections can be made on the following grounds only • To prevent gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime • To ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way • To p...

Too Many Estate Agents - what about Betting Shops?

Too many estate agents – what about betting shops? I am not going to get into any discussion about Sydenham Road, save to say that try as we may, and some of us really do try, there is little we can do to influence outcomes when we have recalcitrant landlords (often living miles away from SE26), who...
