Re: Sydenham too tatty for Caffe Nero
I'm with you on this Rod. Sydenham has lots of nice, independent coffee shops and plenty of character. Café Nero does bad coffee and worse pastries. You should be glad they don't want to open in Sydenham.

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Westwood Hill
Yes, but if you look at the designs, to go straight on you will need to pull out across the car behind you to navigate right onto the island to get onto the cycle track. i.e they've made it more awkward and dangerous than it is at the moment.

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Westwood Hill
Same story all over London. Although we might disagree on the correct remedy for Maple Road. If you look at the map it is blindingly obvious that it shouldn't be a through road at all.

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Westwood Hill
It's well intentioned. I have some sympathy with the people trying to get stuff like this built. One of the problems is British traffic regulations just don't exist yet to properly build the type of scheme pictured earlier in the thread. So that design is still on a test bed in Bedford somewhere whi...
Re: Deliveroo
These things should definitely be encouraged. But as mentioned upthread, services like Uber Eats and Deliveroo bring real ethical concerns with they way they treat their "employees". Perhaps we could divert some energy to enabling consumers to easily get to and from the High St by low tech...

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Westwood Hill
I just hope no one is tempted to do something stupid as a result. And I will be sure to be doing it by car when dark. If they couldn't get cyclists to agree why didn't they just do nothing? Doing nothing not an option when there is Quietway money to be grabbed. Doing something actually good also no...

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Westwood Hill
Nope that's the absolute opposite* of a 'Dutch' roundabout As is what they are building on the parade: http://www.2.southwark.gov.uk/downloads/download/4008/crystal_palace_parade The angles at the crossing points are wrong and there is ambiguous priority throughout. I'm assuming no actual cyclists ...

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Sydenham Hill
If you drive a car in London and you are concerned about pollution there are far more effective things you can do than write to the council complaining about roadworks for a cycle scheme...

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Sydenham Hill
So day one of the above I expect to see chaos there and the usual complaints here. But we have to start from somewhere if we are ever to see Crystal Palace Parade become other than an irritating car park at peak times and a race track at others. Rome wasn't built in a day. But how many months to bu...

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Sydenham Hill
Cycles are not crossing the carriageway at the correct angle all the way around, presumably in an effort to save space. Also, if I remember the designs correctly, there is clear room for confusion around priority at crossing points. Meaning motors won't be required to yield to bikes, so remaining on...

Re: Roadworks Crystal Palace/Fountain Drive/Sydenham Hill
Unfortunately what we're getting up there is a very botched implementation of a Dutch style roundabout. So it will be bad for people in cars, on bikes and on foot. Missed opportunity.

Re: Cycling Weekend Road Closures
It's a pity that you were one of a very small number of people negatively affected by the event. Perils of living in a large city I'm afraid. Hopefully next year you won't have any unfortunately timed cross town visits to make and can just choose to go out and enjoy the occasion, or ignore it entire...

Re: Liveable Neighbourhood for SE26 and SE23
Given the unacceptable volume of through motor traffic and total absence of cycling infrastructure, maybe some changes to the roads in and around the High St? Wouldn't be very expensive to close it to through traffic (a few bollards), and it could promote links to cycling routes elsewhere in the Bor...

Re: 20 mph speed limits
On roads such as Kent House Rd where the limit changes from 30 to 20 half way along, most vehicles take no notice, and continue to belt along at 30+ !!! Kent House Rd is a great example of design failure. At one end it is so wide with so much wasted space. And at the other end it is full of pinch p...

Re: 20 mph speed limits
It all seems an interesting direction for traffic policing! Extending the logic, does it mean if they actually wanted to achieve the 20mph speeds they should set the limits at 10mph? Not sure that is extending the logic - But this is not a novel approach. We (including the authorities) all know tha...

Re: 20 mph speed limits
A far more pertinent question bensonby would be what is the difference in the observed average speed following the 20mph zones.
The absence of ticketing does not necessarily mean an absence of impact.
