There used to be one off Gypsy Hill - not sure if it's still there though.

I wonder if the people at Crystal Palace sports centre might know? Pilates classes are run there and very often people who teach that sort of thing might know people who are into meditation. Or maybe people who run "real" health food shops (as opposed to chains) might know.

Oh and again I apologise for not being more precise in my posting. Of course I know what "healthy living" is. I do not, however, know what the designer means by "employment incubation and healthy living". Perhaps someone would like to enlighten me?

OK Outcast I put my hands up. As is all too obvious, I am not a professional website designer or graphic artist - as I presume the person who did the artwork on Ray Hall's website is. So, Outcast, what I intended to write was "a cross between Homebase at Downham and an anonymous office block be...

Sylvester, mine isn't a "dream of yesteryear". I was saying that the sort of things I enjoyed doing in CP Park with my family in the 50s & 60s are the same things I see families enjoying there today.

Those things (and trees!) aren't a waste of the site.

Is this for real? I've just visited the website and the "our proposals" section is still "coming soon". There is a video though. It features an animation of a cross between a building looking alarmingly like the Homebase at Downham. It's a hotel basically with some add ons such a...

Brick wall of a solicitor

I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this in, but I'm hoping someone can offer me some advice re. tracing my historic house Deeds. As those of you who have read my Land Registry Rant will know, the Deeds to my house have vanished. The conveyancers who acted for me during my house purcha...

Oh Paddy I think that's a bit harsh.

Fitting a tap isn't exactly the same as changing a washer. My husband has just fitted two new sinks & tap arrangements in our kitchen & utility rooms. I could have changed a washer but I certainly couldn't have done that!

Dear User100: Yes it is a Rant I'm afraid, but it is a Rant with a Purpose. The Purpose being to alert other home owners to what is going on. So thank you for not editing this out. I hope that this will be a warning to everyone who has bought - or even just re-mortgaged - their home in the past few ...

Oh yes and if anyone out there is looking for a Title Ref. 211250 dated 14 July 1961 for 116 Vicarage Road ... the reason Land Registry wouldn't have been able to find it is because it had been mis-filed into the file for my house.

And another thing ... Although you don't have to present any form of ID and can ask to view anybody's property details (except probably celebs, royality, MPs etc) you're not allowed to see the file by yourself. You have to have a Land Registry customer services person sitting with you. It took me ab...

Land Registry Rant

OK this is a rant. But it's a rant about historical documents. It's probably something that experienced local historians like Steve are well aware of, but as just the owner of a Victorian house wanting to find out about its history, it came as a bit of a shock to me! The historic Deeds for our house...

I have a feeling I'm being had! Getting some training in for April 1st? It wouldn't be the first time I've been had. I was suckered into an online debate about a planned "Street Art" aka Graffiti festival in the neighbourhood a few years ago. That proved to be a hoax. But only after I dug ...

Postscript: Looking at an 1894 map, I think Kirklynton (or Kirk Lynton) may be where Rose Court now stands. So maybe Omega Cottage was renamed Kirk Lynton?

Can anyone throw any light on the origins of the various names by which Mount Gardens has been known? On the 1819 Enclosures map it doesn't feature at all. (The main road at that time was simply called No. 2 Public Road). I think when the road we know as "Mount Gardens" first appeared it m...

Does anyone know when Omega Cottage demolished? Or was it just renamed Milverton Lodge? I can see Omega Cottage in notes I made from the 1862, 1867, 1872 & 1876 street directories, but not Milverton Lodge. (But I'm looking at my notes & maybe they're incomplete?) A Miss Smith lived there. Fr...

How on Earth is "Neib6hud" a "simplified spelling" or "a prudent and environmentally friendly use of limited public resources".

It's certainly not been very environmentally friendly in my household, where the suggestion caused my blood pressure to rise alarmingly.

Good question. I've wondered about this too. I'd always vaguely thought that it was probably someone's name - maybe someone who'd given a donation - but, beyond finding it rather annoying, I never thought seriously enough about it to try to find out. Now I'm really intrigued. "Neighbour" i...
