Re: Disease carrying slugs hit Sydenham
I use nematode worms - safe for kids and pets and pretty cheap. Gets rid of the slugs pretty much completely and seems to reduce snail numbers too (though manufacturers don’t claim this). Widely used by commercial growers for slug prevention. Need to repeat every six weeks through spring, summer an...

Re: New plans for Calabash of Culture site
Apparently this company provides "Halal" foods. There is a surfeit of providers of such foods and a dearth of alternatives in Sydenham. There is a need for a fried chicken fast food outlet such as Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Re: 154-158 Sydenham Road
If only they included Sivyer's yard in the development Sydenham would be rid of one of its most prolific polluters and causes of traffic disruption.

Re: Noise in Lower Syd last night
Many years ago Lewisham did operate a night time "noisy party patrol". It is one of the areas that has been cut (out) but it is worth remembering this unit was subject to a tragedy in its later days when an officer was killed driving out to an incident. His death took place outside Livesey...

Re: Noise in Lower Syd last night
Well you did your best Chris Best.... A lengthy, verbose and largely unhelpful response. The next question you might ask is "what happens when someone does manage to fight their way through all of this and actually registers a complaint?"

They outsourced the lot many years ago. When they refer to their "digital team" they mean contractors.stuart wrote:Are you sure? The statement refers to 'our digital team' which would imply otherwise unless their attempt was to mislead.John H wrote:Serves them right for outsourcing.

Re: Noise in Lower Syd last night
The anti-social behaviour in the early hours was from the Hazel Grove estate and the music stopped at 3.15am followed by the noise of people leaving the party. I have raised a complaint with the police as the 101 number was not answered and asked Lewisham Homes to look at these neighbour disturbanc...

Re: Disease carrying slugs hit Sydenham
Seems to me vets should be routinely testing. The Advocat prevention does not work. However there has been a massive increase in the slug population. That was the thrust of my post.

Re: Lewisham Council IT system hacked
Serves them right for outsourcing. This is the inevitable consequence. The removal of the essential IT/IS skills from the authority and the privatisation of the function was ill advised and they were advised it was. For decades these systems were 100% secure. The advice of the technical experts empl...

Disease carrying slugs hit Sydenham
Not as silly as it sounds. My beautiful little Jack Russell is one of the latest casualties. Lungworm is carried by slugs and snails and all a dog has to do, to catch them, is to sniff the trail they leave behind. It appears the parasitic worm has been present in Sydenham for a while. On a national ...

Re: Begging outside Sainsbury's local
Interestingly I saw the man who had been begging in the Sainsbury car park again. This time, however, he was loading his shopping into his car.
Not homeless. Not short of money. Just a scrounger.

Re: Bell Green: Planning Inspectorate Public Enquiry announc
Unless and until something is done to assist traffic flow there should be a total block on any development at Bell Green. Southend Lane needs to be made capable of accepting the traffic. That means a new wider, deeper under pass. There is a great deal that can be done to improve the road network at ...

Traffic survey
Interesting to see those little rubber tubes across the roads... a traffic survey no doubt. Knighton Park Road is, most of the time, blocked at present due to the nuisance development at its junction with Sydenham Road. I wonder how representative the traffic count will be!   :rol...

Re: Begging outside Sainsbury's local
Begging and homelessness are two entirely separate issues. Today I was approached by a healthy young man, in Sainsbury's car park, who asked for money. Naturally I refused while resisting the temptation to ask why such a healthy looking well spoke young man did not find a job. (Sainsbury's are recr...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2
No wonder companies give up on Britain. Clearly there are traffic considerations that, if unattended to, would mean a new store there would create an unacceptable level of traffic congestion, pollution et al. However the necessary work is simple and should have been carried out before Sainsbury's wa...

Re: Obstruction of Knighton Park Road
The idea of a morning parking limitation is a good one BUT for those whose cars remain parked overnight and into the day it poses a problem. One free parking permit per house would resolve most of the problems then.
