Re: Johnson/Stocks in Sydenham

Sorry Chaz, I cant be any help.

I do have to admit that I checked out your thread in the vain hope that the title would lead me to some sort of public humiliation of the Mayor of London, which was taking place on the roundabout at Cobbs Corner.

No 1 (?) Queensthorpe Road

Does anyone have any info on the first building on the left hand side of Queensthorpe, round the back of the old curtain shop? I was certain that there was something about it in a previous thread, but I cant find anything. What is/was it? There is what looks like an obscured estate agents sign in th...

Re: The Old Snooker Hall

Looked around the premises last week, and although very interesting - spread over three floors, bar on the bottom (still with drinks!) snooker room on the first floor (still with three tables) and a function room at the top (with another bar) - we calculated that it would cost at least a quarter of ...

Re: Best South London Cafes

Marias, which used to be in Park Street, next to Borough Market, and is now in the market itself, takes some beating - even if its just for the Bubble and Squeak.

Closer to home, I've never had a problem with Hilltop Cafe, for a fry up and cup of splosh.

Re: The Old Snooker Hall

I know what you are saying - but I think the area is big enough to sustain two/three places (if you include Amore too) and i would be aiming at a slightly different market, possibly younger. Playing (not blaring) current music - a different atmosphere.

Interested to hear all feedback.

Re: The Old Snooker Hall

I did mate - yes. I'm having a look round it on Sunday, God willing. I dont want to reopen it as a snooker hall though - I dont think there is much of a future there - but I am still chasing my pizza restaurant dream. I've been looking for good premises forever, and when the HSBC went, I suddenly re...

Re: The Old Snooker Hall

I'm so glad that I have managed to improve the festive social lives of the forum, but it hasnt got me any closer to finding out about the actual premises themselves, and who owns the building. Would it be likely that the whole of Cobbs Corner building (from Ring O Roses right down to Zanzibar, and a...

The Old Snooker Hall

Does anyone know who owns the old snooker hall, and whether it is still totally empty?

Does the LA Fitness encroach on any of the old space - or are they separate?

Any advice much appreciated,

Station Shop

Popped in this morning, to get my paper, and - as often - was short of the requisite cash. As always, I asked the usual question 'Is it okay to pay for two tomorrow?' only to be told that today is their last day of trading. Gutted. Due primarily to the new station operators, London Overground, and t...

I always have Dhansak - and although Gurkhas takes some beating, Garam Masala never let me down.

The catering guy was Andy something, by the way.

I remember the big fry ups on a Saturday, to soak up the Tennents from the night before, having started in Threads, and always ended up in the Greyhound.

Hi Steve I was there at the same time as you, and remember all the names you mentioned. I'd love to know what happened to a few of the people who were in there - they were great times. There were some names I'd love to know where they are now; Steve Brown, Chris Kraus, Chris Epker, Steve Dare, to na...

What were the skies like when you were young? They went on forever And they -- when I We lived in Arizona And the skies always had little fluffy clouds And they were long and clear And there were lots of stars, at night And when it rained it would all turn It -- they were beautiful The most beautifu...

My dad's a bit like that, Lee. I've never investigated the condition of his underwear, but I know he's still got a pair of Adidas that have "Made in West Germany" stamped on the insole. Those were the days eh? When we were told who to trust, and who not to trust. Those damn Communists. St...

I found sending a PM a bit confusing, but then I'm a bit fick anyway. Seems quite long winded, unless I'm doing something drastically stupid.

What about the year 1854?

Crystal Palace moved to Sydenham, Florence Nightingale went to Crimea - just need something to link Panmure and Kelvin Grove to that year, and you've cracked it.
