Thanks for sticking up for me Ginge. Eagle, I can park across my dropped kerb because it's MY dropped kerb. In fact, I don't - because that would be silly as I have a drive! Don't gang up on us that have drives. Maybe we should start on people that un-necessarily drive. What about the folks of Syden...

Before I get 'ganged up' upon - I'd like to point out we have 1 car in our household and it is a small car.

Just to reiterate - I have kept a good third of my front garden with bushes, shrubs and a large tree.

Hello, I am guilty, I'm afraid, of turning my front garden into a drive  . In my defence, I have kept shrubs and plants (AND a tree!) either side as I don't wish to lose all of the birds that visit. I loved my front garden and was quite reluctant to convert it into a drive. My reason in doing ...

Hi Lemonade, I have the same problem! I have a beautiful christmas garland that sits over my dining room mantelpiece. I have got it out this year and the fairy lights that are weaving in and out of the garland are not working. I've tried all the things you suggested - checking each individual bulb o...

Yes Steve, it is Brockley Rise (I checked the A to Z to be sure!). It is very, very good. We've never eaten in the restaurant, only had takeaways. We get a bottle of their house wine with most orders (and it's a very nice wine) - whether this is because we order sooo much or because we are such regu...

Yes Leaf, totally agree - we are regulars too. Have you tried Bengal Barburche? They are just a bit further up (opposite where the old Barclays Bank used to be), can't think for love or money, the name of the bloody road! Anyway, they are on the same par as Elachi. PS Does anyone know the name of th...

Steve,

WOW! Thanks so much for that info, it's so interesting. I have heard about royalty visiting before - but I heard that it was a King (not sure which one!) and that he used to visit his mistress in Sydenham. Think your version is more credible.

Thanks Juwiz, I am grateful for anything you can come up with. Does anyone know if there's any truth in the actual Bell ringing and that most of Sydenham could hear it?

Bell Green

I have been showing this site to my mum recently and she was wondering if anyone knows the history behind 'Bell Green'? Why is it called Bell Green? My mums thinks that a bell used to sound at certain intervals during the day to signal the workers that lived locally. Not sure if this is true. Does a...

Hi Kenny,

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your 'memories'. Please do some more.

With regards to the allotments in Sydenham Park Road, I believe they are still there (down by footbridge to German Church??).

I look forward to reading some more.......get that thinking cap on!

Hi Leaf,

There are posters on lots of lamp posts in Sydenham regarding a lost tortoise shell cat (I think) - could this be relevant to your question?

Try Rascals ball park in Bellingham Leisure Centre. It is a fraction of the price that Gambados charge (and their membership scheme for the balls is well worth joining and not a rip off like Gambados memberships). I used regularly take my daughter to Gambados before discovering Rascals. My daughter ...

Oh wow! Flashback!! I remember the days of the floats. I was actually on one. It was for the Children's Hospital and I had to sit in a wheelchair and pretend to be injured!! Hi, I have problems with Freeview too. I have it in my dining room and in my bedroom and the signal strength is poor. Sometimes I receive pictures and sometimes it's patchy and 'cuts out'. Admittedly, I am only using indoor aerials. We never got round to getting a roof aerial as we have Sky in the l...

Falkor, Wonderful. That has been truly marvelous to look at. Thank you. What a shame it was destroyed. Leaf, My Nan saw the fire too.
