If you want to help towards dealing with potholes and and road maintainence in general, there's one simple, direct thing you can do - make cyclists pay road tax. After all, they use the roads; so instead of incessantly whining about the state of the roads, they can make a positive contribution and ...

Just keep reporting it on http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/ and, after wasting a few thou on bodge jobs, they'll eventually get round to resurfacing that section of road.

Re: I need a washing machine repair man!!
Arrgh!! My washing machine has given up the ghost! Can anyone recommend someone that could bring it back to life again? Any contacts are greatly appreciated. Thanks. :( Washing machines are pretty simple things - if you post the symptoms, it should be easy enough to diagnose the problem. My uncle's...

On the odd occasion that I take the train, I find that hopping onto the 0808, coupled with a swift transfer to the Jubilee line at London Bridge, sees me walk out of Canary Wharf station around ten to nine. It's very important to get in one of the front carriages, otherwise it's going to take you at...

Re: More problems with Oyster PAYG
Anyone else had similar problems? Yes... a few weeks ago, I touched in at Sydenham and the gates opened. As I walked through the gates, I noticed that the light on the Oyster reader was orange rather than green. I queried it with a member of staff and was told to touch out and back in. I thought th...

I've used Virgin's fibre optic broadband service for a couple of years now and find it very reliable. The quoted speed is 10Mbps; downloads are generally in the range of 700-1000KB/s, depending on the source. Upload speeds are no better than the ones you've quoted for BT, although I would expect to ...

Surely this is cristian and common sence approach. What has religion got to do with common sense? People who choose to ignore this should be locked up and their benefits taken away. Am I right in thinking that you seriously advocate custodial sentences to punish the crime of playing loud music? Do ...

So hopefully it happens! Indeed it does. I hereby relay the good news that the mayor approved the plans at the cabinet meeting. Even better than that, there will also be another phase of improvements to Sydenham Road, stretching east of the Mayow Road junction. I'm sure the full details will be pub...

In general private sector pay is more than the equivalent in the public sector. Official stats say otherwise: http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=285 - median earnings of £539 per week in the public sector against £465 in the private sector. Given this I think it's pretty ugly to resent ...

Sigh. Yes, I can confirm that I do resent the council offering a pension which would not be sustainable in the private sector. A pension which can only be funded by either increasing taxation or diverting money away from public services. It's not a question of attitude or even of political inclinati...

I had to do this last night to avoid paying the penalty of maximum fare for not touching out. Stupid state of affairs. Next time, I shan't bother to touch in at London Bridge; the gates are often open late at night. The rollout of Oyster PAYG at Sydenham has been totally bungled. You can't top up an...

I've got the post you're referring to sitting in my RSS reader at the moment. While people in Lower Sydenham might well have taken offence to someone talking down their area, I can't see any racist language in there. I think it's a bit unfair on the post author to tell everyone that the post was rem...

The sample pdf, whose link was posted by Nasaroc, indicates that it does. Ah, thanks for clearing that up Chris. I think TfL need to update their website: Daily price capping is the most you will be charged a day when you use Oyster to pay as you go on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground and so...

There's something I can't quite work out from all the bumph on TfL's website: will Oyster PAYG daily price caps apply to journeys made from National Rail stations such as Sydenham? For example, on some Saturdays, I make the following journeys: - Sydenham station (zone 3) to London Bridge (zone 1). -...
