Re: Closure of Crystal Palace Park One O'Clock Club.
This will be such a loss to the area. We love it there, there is so much for babies/toddlers/pre-schoolers to do. The outside space is just great, right on the edge of the park. It always seems busy to me, especially in the mornings. Parents can meet other parents while the kids do different activit...
Removals
Hi there,
Could anyone recommend a removals firm (for a fairly short distance move)? Happy to try a local firm if possible.
Thanks,
Sue

Hi, We use Little Kickers in East Dulwich (Darrell Rd community centre). My husband and son go every Saturday they morning and seem to enjoy it! You can find Little Kickers online. A bit closer to home is Microsports in New Beckenham but i don't think they run a saturday class hence why we traipse t...

Don't take it personally Juliet, we're all just voicing our opinions on the area. There are many with similar ones to yours and yes I agree there is much room for improvement. Just trying to be positive about the better businesses. Have you tried Billings and Fresh & Fruity? They are both very w...

Re: blue mountain
Agreed Poppy. The Blue Mountain and Dolphin seem to get a hard time here. We don't often visit these places due to our young family but when we do we are always grateful they are in Sydenham. On the Monday Bank Hol last week the Dolphin was quite busy and we had a good lunch there. I remember how we...

Re: Can you recommend an Estate Agent?!
Totally agree with you, they cannot seem to understand that you are the customer and you have to be available for them e.g. they can only value it on a Tuesday afternoon. On the few occassions I had to go into their office in the High Street I was not impressed with Lee or Guy Marshes, they were a ...

Hi,
We use Cornerstone Day Nursery on Trewsbury Rd (there is also a branch on Jews Walk). My son is 2 1/2 and has been going there since he was one. We're really happy with it.
Their details will be on the Ofsted website.

Venner Road area - Bromley vs Lewisham
Our search is on for a family house in Sydenham or close by and we have our eye on some in the Venner/Byne/Wiverton/Tredown Road area. Have noticed that some of these roads fall into Bromley Borough so my question is (particularly if you live in any of these Sydenham roads that are actually in Broml...
Re: kirkdale
Totally agree with MiniFox about Alhambra! There are lots of great shops/businesses in the area that we should be supporting, whether they cater to your taste or not. Alhambra is primarily a gift shop - it does that really well and the prices are not terrible. I also took one of their Spanish classe...

Re: Primary Schools?
These stats are based on which children got into the reception class. Of course if you are a sibling then you take priority so a child living on Venner Rd, for example may have got in 5 years ago pre-baby boom but would not get in today as are out of the now shrunken catchment. However their younger...

Re: Primary Schools?
Hi Caz, still surprised that they got in as in the Lewisham School Admissions brochure for entry in 2011/2012 has the furthest distance a child was admitted the year before to be something like 468m. Did they use the waiting list then? That is also done on distance. A friend of mine on Longton Grove...

Re: Primary Schools?
Wow, Venner Rd would be nowhere near the current catchment area for Eliot Bank. This year and last year it has been less than 500m which is very small. I wouldn't like to rely on the waiting list as there is no guarantee. Caz - I take it your children got into Eliot Bank a few years ago? This year K...

Re: Primary Schools?
A slight change in the topic.... We're in the process of finding a new family home and hope to stay in the Sydenham area. For those of you living on the south side of Sydenham Road (Venner, Tannsfeld, Girton etc): what primary school does your child go to? It seems that there are not many non-faith ...

Re: Can you recommend an Estate Agent?!
Thanks for all your comments, it's a tricky one but I'm all for an agent with local knowledge who will promote the area as well as the property. Anyone have any experience with Bairstow Eves? They have a tempting introductory offer on! [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://sydenham.org.uk/mobile.png

Can you recommend an Estate Agent?!
Following on from all the recent estate agent threads, I'd like to ask if anyone could recommend an estate agent they have used to sell their property in Sydenham? We are looking to sell our flat but there are so many to choose from. Apart from the fees and websites advertised on, I'd like to know w...

For those of you looking for a plumber, I can vouch for Carrie Andrews of Plummy Plumbers as mentioned before. She gave helpful advice and changed our tap with ease. Plus she is a very nice lady!

Local painter/decorator
Hello,
Am looking for recommendations for painter/decorators to carry out two jobs in our home:
1) Paint the front of house
2) A small sand and paint job on some window frames inside the house
If you have used someone for similar work and are pleased with the results, please let me know.
Thanks,
Sue

Re: Sydenham childcare options
Hi Andy, I think you'll find most of the nurseries in the Sydenham area will open at 8am and close by 6pm. I initially thought this would be difficult to work around but luckily my husband can drop off our son at 8am and then I leave work early to collect about 5.30pm, having started work at 8am. An...

Re: Local Nursery
That is great news Susanna,
When i was looking for a nursery for my son a year ago it became clear there is a great shortage of suitable places in the Sydenham/Forest Hill area. So a new quality nursery will be a welcome addition.
Good luck with your venture,
Sue
