Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
Part of the issue for planning committees is that sometimes applications say one thing but immediately they are granted and the business is up and running then the reality of what is actually delivered does not match what was proposed. WHat do you do then? This also applies to housing developments. ...

Re: Cycling Weekend Road Closures
Please correct me if necessary on geography - but what about Sydenham - Crown Hill - Streatham - Mitcham - Colliers Wood - South Wimbledon - Wimbledon Chase - onto A3 just South West of Raynes Park. No need to go across South Circular - this is our normal route. Then get to Basingstoke either by M25...

Re: Say 'No' to further retail at Bell Green
I doubt anything will be done about the car park until the Bakerloo line extension plans are finalised. Isn't the lower sydenham station going to be relocated to more central Bell Green?

Re: Windmill Victory
I'm not convinced that having a B&B or hotel on the site would solve the problems, although the Alexandra has a hostel above it. Having grown up in a hotel and a seaside town and family who have run B&B's, it's not the most profitable of ventures. It may make it easier for a bar to exist, b...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
Wonder what odds I would have gotten in one of our numerous local bookies that the pub still would not be open in July 2017. Should have enquiried a few years ago. Now you wouldn't get an "odds on" bet that anything of significance would open in Sadenham I tried to place a bet on this at ...

Re: Windmill Victory
The Sydenham Society's approach to this property just completely baffles me. They seem to be objecting to any use of the property other than as a large pub, something which it seems quite obvious isn't going to happen. We've now waited 3.5 years for a pub operator to open a large pub on The Windmil...

Mmmm. Actually many did stop to give +ve comments and also one person gave additional help.
I just wanted to say thank you and publicly acknowledge that this goes on. Heaven forbid it might encourage others to do the same knowing they are not alone.

And for an example of the thorough, rigorous and hard work the Society puts in please see the notes for next weeks Lewisham Planning meeting: the proposals for the Windmill on Kirkdale are up for discussion / agreement / disagreement. You can find the report to go before the Planning Committee here:...

Re: Parliamentary Election Hustings
Glad you are trying to re-arrange. Taking all the circumstances into account it will be better if the hustings take place - albeit delayed - than not take place at all.
Hustings are an important part of our system of democracy - long may they continue.

Re: Tennis courts in Wells Park?
Wells Park tennis courts open and no charge to play - just turn-up and wait your turn if occupied. However some time in the future (this year) they will move to LTA management just like Mayow ones and others in Lewisham. Then there will be payment system etc.

Re: Armed robbery at Costcutters, Kirkdale - footage release
Is this 'armed' with a knife or was there a gun involved? I looked at the image and only saw a knife. The headline says 'armed' - I always thought this meant a gun - or have things moved on for this to include all weapons i.e. "armed" with a threatening note. Frightening and not good all t...

Re: Tennis courts in Mayow Park
Some news in the link below. Agree with you - turn up and play a great boon to Lewisham kids- impulse opportunity now gone away. Unfortunately its linked to offloading responsibility for these assets from the Council - they couldn't justify expenditure when so many other pressures were on them. And ...

Re: Westwood Hill Speed Camera
@broken_sharman - number of fines is not an indicator of success. It does not take into account those who changed their behaviour as a result of the signage and other information about. It also depends on how much money spent on active enforcement. It will be interesting to understand the impact tho...
Re: Budgens
What about Wilkinson ("Wilko") - there is one in Penge which almost reflects the old Woolworths style. Useful stuff and not necessarily a bargain basement range. Would provide a useful different option to the Poundland style stores already on the High Street (which I use quite often I shou...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
That's great news! Why does the Sydenham Society get privileged and confidential information? Its often the way that organisations / societies that represent others get this kind of access to information. That's the system. Its partly because they engage with others in dialogue; demonstrate some un...

Re: Time Out Love London Awards
There are some very spiteful people about. Last night the La Petite Bouchee van was vandalised again. Windows that had just been replaced 12 hours earlier were again smashed. Nothing was stolen - this does not look like mindless vandalism. I don't believe forum members can do anything specific about...
