RE :Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
In the absence of any further news or hope on this, I've decided to share a few pictures taken over the course of the last year. If a picture paints a thousand words... then perhaps these can help highlight the persistent fly-tipping and bad behaviour that blights the end of Larkbere Road. The state...
Re: sticky:Mural?
Bit belated, but heartfelt congratulations on what you're doing - keep going. My preference by far would be a piece by the incredibly talented Lionel Stanhope in the style of his Forest Hill walrus, but featuring a dragon, however tenuous the connection... Who doesn't love dragons?! (Cue a series of...

Re: Poodle club
It's absolutely brilliant! Such a fantastic addition to Sydenham, love everything they've done with it and the care they've taken.

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
That's great news, Ben - delighted to hear that there is some movement on this front. I've taken a fair amount of photos relevant to this over the last 12 months or so. From what you've said I assume the best thing to do would be to send them to a Councillor (Councillor Best?) cc-ing Syd Soc? If so ...

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
Asking again on this issue, Ben, is there any news? Any advice? Yesterday private cars were yet again parked all along this stretch back to back, leaving almost no room for pedestrians. I see various broken paving stones have now been sprayed, and so presumably are set to be replaced, but unless ste...

Re: Water Meter
I'm really interested to read about it not being compulsory to accept these. We had Water Meters forced on us in our road over the summer. Although I tried to insist to Thames Water that we did not want one for our house, I was told we had no choice in the matter, as the meter was located in the str...

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
Hi Ben,
Given your post above back from back in July, I just wondered if anything had ever come of this, or if you or anyone else had advice on what might be done to help?
Any thoughts gratefully received, thanks.

Re: food waste collection
Just had new stickers slapped on all the bins in our street. Leaving aside that it's thoughtlessly covered up our house numbers, which will now need repainting, I feel it's ridiculous to declare outright "NO FOOD WASTE ALLOWED" on the general rubbish bins. Will a Food Waste Inspector now b...

Re: Putting cooker in chimney breast
Thanks Mary and SP - fingers crossed I now have the information I need. With luck I will soon get the job done, and my neighbour will never get a whiff of my chips. In terms of the Wanted section, it just seems a bit loose and generic for this. Sydenham is currently an area with a constant influx of...

Re: Boilers R Us
Hi Sue, Sorry I can't offer feedback on Boilers R Us, but I recently had a new boiler fitted by ProGas and cannot recommend them highly enough. The work was incredibly swift, very efficient and tidy, and I can't speak highly enough of them. Plus, several times in the past when my old boiler broke do...

Re: Putting cooker in chimney breast
Thanks Parker1970 - I am aware of them, but thought something more specific for builders, plumbers etc might be an idea, as they frequently crop up, though maybe it's unnecessary.
A very kind poster has just DM'd exactly the information I needed, so fingers crossed!

Putting cooker in chimney breast
Morning, I've recently bought a range cooker that I would like setting back into the chimney breast in my kitchen. Finding advice/information about this is proving much harder than I anticipated, so wondered if anyone here had done this, and if so could you tell me how you handled extraction? I want...

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
Hi Ben, Just wondered if there was any news on this front? Or, in light of the recent Fix My Street thread, whether help should be being sought there instead/as well? The paving stones outside the chicken shop with the Disney font logo are now badly damaged and loose. The pavement outside Barrakah i...

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
Thanks for the swift response, Ben, and thanks for the replies - very glad there is some support for this. Coming back the other night, I noticed that directly opposite this stretch, the library has bollards outside, presumably for the same reason. I'm all for a bit of symmetry... The garage is a tr...

Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?
Beninahurry said: Several people expressed concerns that bikes would be parked on pavements blocking safe pedestrian passage. I just read the above statement in the Sydenham Society thread regarding the proposed Nandos development. I started replying there, but realised this was a separate topic. Gi...

I don't know for sure, but by virtue of their name alone I'd imagine ProGas in the high street could do it - if so I can't recommend them highly enough.

Re: Sydenham Plant Exchange - Who’s In? #gardening
This is a BRILLIANT idea, please make it happen. It could be the answer to a problem I've been vexed with. When I first moved here, because of the size of my garden I aimed to plant things that would give a sense of height, ie go up, not out. One of these was red hot pokers, which I liked as they ar...
