Knighton, I think you are missing the point. Dogs are subject to restrictions because some of them have a tendency to attack people. You may remember that some of the current regulations came in after a spate of children were mauled by dogs which resulted in some horrific injuries. A domestic cat on...

Leaf - I'm a bit confused. In this thread you are moaning about people wanting to improve the area and then in the thread on the Dolphin you moan that the Dolphin is in the "sh1tty end" of town. Do you believe that the whole of Sydenham is great or do you believe that parts of it could be ...

DO YOU THINK SYDENHAM NEEDS A CONTINENTAL DELICATESSEN/CAFE.SOME WHERE TO HAVE A GREAT CAPPUCCINO AND PANINI. Is the Pope a Catholic? One of the big things that people moan about in this area is the lack of such a facility. On the coffee shop / cafe front I'm sure there is demand; Be it Mums with y...

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying there is anything wrong with the Chef Delight or the others, but a coffee shop will offer a completely different dining experience.

New Coffee Shop for Sydenham?

Apparently someone wanted to open up a Costa Coffee type coffee shop in the high street, but the council refused permission because, “there were too many cafes in the area”. This decision beggars belief, are the council vindictive or just stupid? How can you compare the Chefs Delight and a trendy co...

If you have an emersion heater, turn the thermostat down to about 40 degrees max Whilst this will save you cash on your heating bills, building regulations suggests a minimum temp of 60 degrees for your hot water. There are bugs that can breed in a water system if the temperature doesn't get to 60 ...

What would you classify Girton Road as? That is the road I'm on (alon with Somerfields)? I like to think of myself as Mid-Sydenham. We are not really in the leafy Upper Sydenham streets, but too far to walk to the Savacentre. Well it isn't too far but the Sainbury's in Penge is closer (and being clo...

It is utter madness. Why change something for the sake of it?

I've only heard it a few times, but it does give you an uplifting start to the day when you do hear it. Why do people want to make the world a dull place?

Try www.gumtree.com, it lists short term lets all over london. You may have to keep an eye on it as it is updated daily. http://www.gumtree.com/london/london-short-term-houses-for-rent_211_1.html I know Foxtons do short term lets but only as far east as Herne Hill. However, if you give them a call t...

There isn’t the usual yellow “Incident Call for Witnesses” board nor is there any mention in the media. I don’t want to sound like a paranoid conspiracy theorist who hangs around web forums…. But isn’t a bit strange that nobody can find anything out? If it wasn’t anything major then why close off th...

I spoke to one of the policeman but he wasn't very forthcoming. All he would say was it was a serious assault (I could have guest that much). I'll try again later and if I find anything out I'll post it.

With regards to the trains, even after 7:30pm you are better off changing at London Bridge if there isn’t a Sydenham train at Charring Cross. The LB to Victoria train starts at LB and goes via Sydenham. You can also get trains from Victoria to Penge East, which is only a 10 minute walk. We live in G...

I suspect that it'll not be a copy of Ronnie Scotts. My guess is that it will be more like "Downstairs" which used to be open in Greenwich. If you never went there it was not quite the calibre of Ronnie S’s but a good night if you stuck to large G&Ts.

Since the road works have moved down on Sydenham road, has anyone else noticed that although they have redone the tarmac over the trench they dug for the pipes; their equipment has ripped up the surface in places either side on the trench. No doubt this will need to be fixed fairly soon, with more r...

Sydenham Road - The Future?

The damage to the high street has already been done, largely due to a change in social behaviour, which was accelerated by the opening of the SavaCentre. The question is, how do we make Sydenham a thriving and vibrant place? If you look around at the high streets that are vibrant and thriving, they ...

The local elections are not far away, 4th May 2006. Maybe it is time to debate this with a wider audience. There is time enough to get organised and campaign for a May election, should Bryan / nasaroc or another think they can do better for Sydenham.

In response to Nasaroc's question about an arguments for the development. The issue is that people aren't coming into Sydenham. The Savacentre is only partly to blame for that - it isn't exactly a success for Sainsbury's either. People are going elsewhere, be it Beckenham. Bromley, Croydon or wherev...

Could Bell Green development be good for the high Street?

As a fairly new resident of Sydenham (I've been here for 3 years) and regular user of the high street, my first reaction to the proposed development at Bell Green was the same as most peoples. I had heard what the place was like before the Savacentre arrived and I was worried that the development wo...
