Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
Affordable housing has to be built to meet higher specifications than the minimums for general housing - part of the conditions for getting government subsidy. Agree there's a couple of developments on Kirkdale which have been built in the last 10 years I've lived round here and are already looking ...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
I'd want the pub to be a proper pub rather than a Harvester or an Indian restaurant. We have enough Indian restaurants and takeaways in Sydenham already. A nice, independent, well run, real ale, good food, community minded, child friendly pub would be great there. As much as anything else, I'd real...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
I'm asking because we can't un-knock it down. We need to know exactly what the grounds for objecting are. We can't object because they knocked it down. They shouldn't have done that, which I"m sure they know, and Lewisham's planning department is understaffed, as they are on all councils, espe...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
What purelake are saying is nonsense in my view. If there were structural reasons to knock it down why not tell the council first rather than just rushing it through. The whole thing has stunk from the fire to the demolition. What could have been a lovely pub and surrounding area has been hijacked ...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
Or even, let us know if its a Pub? Or aBetting office? Would help. I'm surprised you ask the question lee, a lovely old pub is a shell of its former self,it looks totally out of place, stuck in front of the flats like that, like its a last minute thought. Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
Thanks for that info biscuitman. Presumably the concerns from the two pub operators refer to the original configuration (the new basement must be more than 1.6m!). The rebuild could be a blessing in disguise if the new configuration is more attractive to a pub operator. It is all very well us sugges...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
Wow, this thread is turning to a Sydenham version of the Leveson Inquiry! If you'll forgive me returning to the subject of the future of the Greyhound, as oppose to how we got where we are: I've had a scan of the plans. The good news seems to be that having to take the Greyhound to pieces and rebuil...

Re: Support your local French bakery!
I love the bakers, I love the fact it is no-frills, no fancy branding but just straightforward great bread sold fresh in the morning just like you'd find in a village in France. Different strokes for different folks and all that, but I think their croissants are incredible, the chocolate and almond ...

Re: Antic pubs have withdrawn from the Greyhound
This is really bad news. It's not just an issue of whether we need a decent pub in the area, but what is to happen with this important building on such a central site. The whole redevelopment has been centred on saving the Greyhound building, and making this a focus point. If Antic don't think they ...

Re: Thinking of moving to Peak Hill Gardens
Although it looks like there have been problems for residents of PHG on that thread, I'm not sure that the club does kick out onto Spring Hill/PHG - there is I think a fire exit on that side but the entrance is round on Kirkdale. Not sure whether the shock expressed was in relation to Sydenham in ge...

Re: The pub on the kirkdale roundabout
Am sure more parking would be an advantage, but I'm also quite sure the pub can be very successful without any parking. Glad that work is now underway: when the whole development is finished I think this area of Sydenham is going to be substantially improved! [ Post made via Mobile Device ] http://s...

Re: Lost White Cat called Monty
Given he it was only the second time he was let out, sounds like he is more likely to have got lost than come to any harm. Cats have a great homing instinct and Monty may well have gone off in search of his last home. We had a cat once that went missing for after a move before turning up a week late...

Re: Wooster & Stock and the Woodman (former) Pub
I know people weren't exactly overwhelmed by the prospect of the pub becoming an estate agent, but prospect of a gallery space etc sounds promising. It would be good to see hire not just for 'private functions' but for community use. Again, I know people have been cynical about the whole Wooster &am...

Re: Catching the bus?
Personally I paid a pound or two for the buschecker app and I don't regret it - even though it is the same info it's so user-friendly that I think it was worth paying for. Whether you pay for an app or use the TfL site, it's fab to have the information on your phone -I've certainly saved hours of my...

Re: JH Skincare, Kirkdale
I must admit that Janis, who owns the salon, can seem a touch intimidating to the uninitiated. However she has whipped my skincare regime into shape and my skin is sparkling like never before. It's great to have a high quality salon like this locally and I think prices are extremely reasonable for w...

Re: A second cash-a-cheque shop on high st...
Why do you need a sop to cash a cheque. Banks have done this for centuries. You may need it if: a) you don't have a bank account; or b) you have cash flow problems and need the money instantly rather than having the luxury of waiting days for a cheque to clear. They will charge a % of the value of ...

Re: The pub on the kirkdale roundabout
It's very glass-half-empty round here isn't it? At the risk of coming in and being a Tigger in crowd of Eeyores - I'm still very optimistic! -Antic have clearly stated they haven't pulled out and don't have any intention about selling on. -The build looks very much likely the artists impression, inc...

Re: Social Housing
Sorry - am happy to stand corrected, I didn't realise Hexagon had taken on the entire site. Obviously that changes the picture of the type of residents somewhat, but I'm very happy that'll we'll have 40 new social homes in the area - there's about 18,000 on the waiting list for housing in Lewisham, ...

Re: Social Housing
Okay - for starters why are we talking about social housing here? As far as I'm aware (and it would be very unusual if this were not the case) these are mixed developments, and I expect the majority of the homes will be private sales. I don't know so much about the Bell Green development , but if th...
