Thanks for the replies.
How odd, maybe something has been fitted to the supply to our flat which softens it. You can actually generate a lather with soap in our flat - rather than just soap scum!

Excellent ideas! :D Putting the station entrance closer to the main road would be good – the station approach seems to be a bit of a crime blackspot perhaps because it is set away from the road. The thing I find most annoying about the buses is that there is no one location where you can pick up a b...

I have tried the food in Dartmouth Arms - I thought it was very good but the menu options were a bit limited when we went, and it is relatively pricey (£10+ for a main) - aiming squarely at the 'gastropub' market. It got a terrible write up in the Evening Standard, but I wouldn't believe a word of it!

Sounds good! Haven't been yet, did my last big shop at Bell Green.... Just as an aside, I went down to Safeways/Somerfield, armed with a shopping list, only to find it was closed for the restock. So, partly as an experiment, partly out of desperation, I tried to find everything on my list in the hig...

Softer water in Sydenham?
Having lived in a few parts of South East London, I've noticed the water in my flat in Sydenham is much softer than in other places I lived. Does anyone know if we get a different water supply here compared to Dulwich/Forest Hill/Crystal Palace? It is possible our flat has been fitted with some kind...

Probably a bit late, but my thoughts are... One train every fifteen minutes isn't too much difference to one every 10 minutes in terms of convenience. What matters more is capacity - during peak times the London Bridge trains are often completely full. If the ELLX will actually divert a lot of passe...

Thanks for that Stuart, it explains a lot! The lights must come on automatically - the neon sign always seems to be on in the evening. Someone is probably clocking up quite a bill! The advertising board presumably hasn't moved in a year - I thought it was odd always seemed to be promoting Christmas ...

Twilights/Chasers
I was just browsing through the site and under the 'high street changes' section it says that Twilights and Chasers closed down in September 2003. However, at present the neon 'Twilights' sign is often on and there is usually an advertising board outside. Admittedly though I've never seen anyone goi...

I must confess I haven't been in any of the pubs in Sydenham - as none of them have looked particularly appealling (to a 20-something female)!
I'm kind of pleased to know I haven't been missing out on much, but it is a real shame that when there are so many pubs there isn't a couple more decent ones.

Having recently moved down the road from Crystal Palace to Sydenham (in order to find affordable property), I do certainly miss the restaurants cafes etc in that area. However, as I keep reminding myself, if we had all those things in Sydenham I wouldn't be able to afford to live here - can't have y...

Somerfield seems to have two styles of store - 'standard' (the one in Tulse Hill was like this last time I looked) and 'posh' (see the one in East Dulwich, called 'Market Fresh' or somesuch). I think it will be a be an interesting sign of Sydenham's status to see which type we end up with. :? Anyone...
