I must say that the frequency of service is revolutionising my life - being able to stroll to the station at a time of my choosing rather than being dictated by the train timetable. The problem is that replacing my morning dash for the train with a leisurely saunter is probably depriving me of half ...

Well word on the street is now for a full-scale coallition between the libdems and the conservatives. Even rumours of clegg for deputy PM! Very surprising stuff if true, I was expecting a much more arms length relationship. Whereas it looks like not just getting into bed but all tucked in and snuggl...

Weeble, if the Tories cut hard surely they'll blow their (limited) popularity? Along with the Libdems if they support them. I think you're right, but I don't think they've got much choice - the cuts are going to have to bite. Even if they hold back in the interests of maintaining popularity, it's s...

I think as Digime said, the most likely outcome is for a minority Conservative government with some kind of formal time-limited arrangement with the Libdems on a confidence-and-supply type basis, with some kind of agreement to a referendum on electoral reform (although probably AV only, they'll be v...

I saw a whole family of mummy fox and five fox cubs playing in our neighbour's garden a few days ago, here they are enjoying the sunshine:

Cat-killing, bin-bag ripping, shoe-stealing menaces they may be, but those fox cubs are soooo cute!

Sydenham Station - Platform 1 Side Gate Closed
Arriving for the 6:57 train this morning the 'side gate' entrance on platform 1 was shuttered closed. Cue a number of unhappy commuters running full-pelt round to the main entrance to catch their train, and still others turning up too late to do anything about it other than watch the train leave wit...

Croydon (Purley Way) is the closest IKEA - you can get there by train to one of the Croydon statiions and then get the tram (to Ampere Way which is just across the road from IKEA). There is also a Matalan in the vicinity - which is very close to IKEA as the crow flies but a bit of a hike on foot, ma...

Some good points in more recent posts and I think if I have a concern it is the precise location, slap-bang in a residential area. Immediate neighbours will naturally have some concerns about noise etc, but also it lessens the chance of the centre having a wider regenerative impact, as there's no op...

A bit more information here: http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/NewsAndEvents/News/SydenhamToGetWorldClass%C2%A33.5mYouthCentre.htm Apparantly young people were involved in developing the plans and presenting them to the mayor. They'll also continue to be involved in developing and running the youth centre.

So Chazza - are you saying in your case your oyster card actually opened the gates, but didn't register that you'd touched in? I think this is what happened to me this morning, although with the rush of people going through the gates (a train was literally just pulling into the station) the gate did...

More problems with Oyster PAYG
I've just been clobbered for a £20 penalty fare this morning as apparantly my Oyster PAYG hadn't touched-in properly at Sydenham. I was just checking my PAYG records and notice another journey which has registered as uncompleted where I've been charged £6 - I've not yet been able to track dow...

a problem with the supplier . So they're shipping their pies in ready-made? I know this isn't exactly uncommon practice for pub-grub, but as you say, prices are similar to the Dolphin where they actually appear to have people in the kitchen who can cook food from scratch. I wouldn't mind if it was ...

Sad that the old cobblers is closing as well - it's a great old shop - but couldn't be more excited about the prospect of a decent butchers and fishmongers. If they do a good job and are selling quality meat and fish, this should be excellent news for the rest of high street as well. I enjoy doing a...
