I have been in this building numerous times, the first about twenty years ago. The proprietor assured me it used to be an electricity sub-station.

pubs now gone

I'm sure that I saw a thread on this site about pubs in the area which have either been demolished or have had a change of use. I recollect that, on the list, there had been a pub in Stanstead road, number 271 or 291. Can anyone help?

Two points. Firstly as you drive into Newlands Park form the high street there would be a lot less congestion if that bl***y stupid parking bay was removed that sits just pass what was Volkspares. If that bay was removed the traffic would flow a lot easier as very few people park on the left going d...

Alexandra park model road network

In the mid 1950's, at the Lennard road end of Alexandra park, a fantastic road network was laid out purely to teach young cyclists the rules of the road.It was probably one third scale and had working traffic lights and flashing Belisha beacons on the zebra crossings. There were dual carriage ways, r...

Flares, tank tops, platform soles, Ziggy Stardust, getting sloshed and walking home without any hassle, girls that were attractive and did'nt sound like Vicky Pollard! Do you remember the little raised areas in there? And then there was Spiders upstairs and round the back where bands used to play. I...

In the early seventies, when I first becme interested in local history, I worked with a man who used to do hill climbing as a motor sport. He told me that Jasper road was the one that the early drivers used. If I get time I will take a photo and do a comparison as I think the road is unspoilt.

As you approach Honor Oak road from Honor Oak station, opposite the school, there is an extremely forboding door which looks somewhat out of place . Was this the entrance to the observarory?
