Crystal Palace park noise

Is anyone else aware of the fairly regular Sunday night music from the park ? For years I thought it must be some licenced event which there have been from time to time - no problem with that . But it ain't - I went jogging there a week ago and went up to where the ( massive ) subwoofer sound was co...

Re: sydenham needs an uplifting

KPR Certainly would include Calabash as part of any burgeoning foodie culture . As you say it must be a godsend for vegans but that is hardcore eat-to-live in my view . From limited experience I found the coffee very poor , prices pretty high for entirely vegetable based food and the service friendl...

Re: sydenham needs an uplifting

I remember a Jewish wit that once described " optimism " in Israel thus :" things can't get worse " - " yes they can ". The discussion about McDonalds makes me feel a tad like that . At the risk of being thought an out of touch, foodie, elitist ponce , I hate McDonalds ...

Re: Suggestion - red light cameras

Completely agree - we do seem to have a problem with feral motorcyclists / scooter riders ( and equally feral cyclists on pavements ) but I've seen cars and vans do that too . Cameras seem to have replaced our consciences these days but they work so let's use them where there is a risk to the public...

GFA
Thanks - I'm sure a lot people would be interested to know how he's getting on . I'm sure the neighbours in Alma Place would have preferred Alan's garage to whatever the " developers " shoehorn into that space .

Re: Car Service/MOT

What a shame about Alan Hill's . I had a problem with my power steering recently and tried to call Alan Hills . When I got no response ( highly unusual ) I had a horrible feeling he had gone . I used his garage for 20 years and was always happy with his service - professional , fair priced and trust...

Re: Pheasant on the loose

My good lady reports seeing a pheasant ( same one or another? ) near the Alexandra Nursery on the railway siding .
Are they the new parakeet , albeit having travelled less far to get here ?

Re: Sticky music thread

I think someone posted Man of Constant Sorrow a while back - here's the brilliant Alison Krauss surrounded by the equally brilliant Union Station . Having seen them live twice I can say they make virtuoso look bloody easy . I think this (" Alison Krauss & Union Station - Live " ) is on...

Lee
It's hardly bloody libel is it ?

I'd say you were Lee as in curmudgeon-Lee , petty-Lee and pedantic-Lee.

Thanks for the info on 2/3 pint being a recognised measure . Or was that Jeff ?

Re: The Alexandra

Does anyone know the precise size of those glasses ? Lee referred to them as schooners ( 285ml) which makes the just over half a pint ( and bloody expensive therefore ) .
Sincerely hope they are 2/3 of a pint but not sure that is any kind of legal measure.

Re: The Alexandra

Has anyone been to the quiz night yet ? Was thinking of trying it for my first visit . Re the reference to size of glass , I think JMLF has given us a much more appropriate pejorative than "girly" : The glasses were disappointingly "European" ,or, " of the European persuasio...

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

Lee and Stuart and Mosy : yes and yes and yes - interesting street furniture , seating , street sculpture - all could stop morons driving their cars onto the pavements - and if that fails - crush them ( and their cars ) . Seriously if we can't keep our pavements safe how do we promote a social stree...

Jim Dowd will be whatever the constituents want him to be - so long as he doesn't have to do any work . So, as Lewisham is one of those strange remain areas that's what Jim is .
Like his party he did nothing to make remain a reality - i thank him for that at least.

Pally
It is a Mr Garrison-ism ( the sexually confused teacher in South Park ) . A metaphor for pessimism as in " there's no way I'll get that job... - hey! We are NOT at home to Negative Nancy ! Yes you will " .

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

I know we are not at home to Negative Nancy but ( speaking a propos the parking ) , pavement parking now seems to have normalised - do we not need bollards - nice ones please like the Bellendon Gormley ones ? If we don't surely there is limitless parking ie the entire pavement area of Sydenham . It ...

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

And yay from me - thinking this morning , how many people thought 10 years ago , there would be a thriving cafe in Mayow park ? I trudged through there for years yearning for somewhere to have an espresso with my morning fag and apart from a brief interlude I think in the 00's nothing until now . I ...

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

Personally Less than thrilled st a Nando's - went once and hated it - I'm not sure how much of an asset it would be . Paired with a cinema - different story and I I do think we could sustain a small cinema . Really hope it's a carluccio or pizza express if it is to be a chain - but I just can't get ...

Parker It's not literal but shorthand for " don't piss off a punter for 8 poxy quid ". Seriously I wouldn't shop with anyone that didn't give me the benefit of the doubt if I presented calmly and reasonably as Coll no doubt did . I don't see why people are building a case for rejecting out...

Jollylolly Yes and yes - technicalities aside I don't see how anyone can conclude that the bottle was definitely not defective . Beyond that - what happened to " the customer is always right " ? I doubt many of us would see PFC as a wine destination but that stupid and ignorant manager mus...
