The butcher on the high street
Mr Boston the Butcher on Perry Hill (in the parade past the new Tesco Express) is brilliant - lots of organic stuff and all beautifully presented. Great service too!

Bar Equal - the Railway?
Just picking up JulsB's point on the lack of decent pubs and bars - if anyone has got the odd £35K they could invest in The Railway - a brilliant location and art deco front - with the possibility of regeneration with Sydenham Gateway it could be a real moneyspinner!

A small improvement to sightlines approaching the zebra. Late last week the lighting column on the left just before the zebra as you head towards Cobb's corner was moved about one metre to the left. There's now more chance of motorists seeing the crossing clearly as they approach the zebra. Not a to...
Cinemas
In reply to fishcox - the only screenings we have within Lewisham now are at the Broadway Theatre, Catford - in fact this Tuesday and Wednesday they are showing Comme Une Image and House of Flying Daggers - much better than the usual multiplex fare! There used to be a film club that met in the Nabor...

Somerfields
In reply to Danny, I've just shopped in the new Somerfields and am really encouraged - the shelves are laden with interesting fresh food (quite a bit of organic stuff), everything is well presented and looks enticing, and the shop seems to have been given a really good spring clean - long overdue! T...

Safeways
In reply to Global Thinker (above) the new Somerfields actually opens on Wednesday rather than Thursday. Let's hope that it's an improvement on Morrisons/Safeways - and that it will help to cheer up the high street!

I agree with Marianne. Personally I was cheered enormously by buying flowers just now in Chantelle's opposite the station - fabulous service and wonderful flowers! Wednesday's Standard article was brilliant and if Somerfields invest in the area then the 'downbeat' high street could begin to look up....

Safeways
Happy New Year to Jim in Aberdeenshire - I've just returned from Nairn in Nairnshire where their Safeways, which is a similar size to ours, is looking equally dismal. Roll on Somerfields - but in the meantime I think we need to keep up the pressure - as Matt_G suggests - so that we get the Market Fr...

Funny you should mention that Global Thinker - the Sydenham Society have recently deluged Somerfields execs with letters along those lines, together with pix showing the current frontage. We think that with the neighbouring Lidl offering 'value' we need a supermarket that is going to concentrate on ...

Safeways
Somerfields can hardly be worse than Morrisons - from their website they look very encouraging, with Good Food awards and lots on 'working with the community'. Fingers crossed! Plus a refurb for the store will be a great boost to Sydenham.

Problems in Penge
I think a report would on Penge would be great. The high street seemed very lively when I visited recently - there's a nice pavement cafe for lunch on a sunny day! It would be a shame if Bromley pulled the plug on Penge - it's laboured under its 'poor relation' status for too long!

back button on website
A back (and forward!) button within the website itself means you do not have to go to the keys above the browser to move backwars and forwards in the website... minor point, but it's nice to have all the funtionality within the page itself - without going outside...

The new website
Website is wonderful - but I can't see a 'back' button apart from the one in the browser! Am I missing something?
