Are you sure you have to be there for six months? It seems strange to me. I would take it into one of the local letting agents and show it to them, you could say you are interested in moving. The incentive for them giving you proper advice is that you may use their services when you do come to move....

Went down today. I had a great bacon sarnie on proper crusty bread cut by hand, and a mug of tea for £1.85 (One pound eighty five pence!). Marvelous. Cheery service and entertainment on tap due to the banter of the three street cleaners sharing the next table.

Just to let you know that the Dolphin are doing a great Christmas Menu for £20 per head if you book for a minimum of 8 people. When I saw that it was only available up to 21st Dec (I wanted to book for me and my friends on 22nd) I emailed them saying that if only it were available for one more day t...

I would check your contract. I think you will find that if you give one months notice you can leave whenever you like. From what I understand the six months contract means that your landlord can't give YOU notice until the six months is up - but not the other way round. Incidentally I have a friend ...

Mr S and I did go yesterday and yes, it was expensive (£13 inc tip) - we had a sandwich and a cappachino each - a huge bowl of frothy coffee, well worth £2. The staff were very friendly and approachable and the place was packed. I'm very pleased that we have such a venue, and although we won't use i...

Sounds good Kate, a worthy cause but you know, I think 'black tie' might put people off. Just a thought for next year.

We arrived home yesterday morning from holiday after flying all night, and as tired as I was I whooped a squeal of delight as we turned the corner from the station and saw the cafe open. Hurrah!!! Once I've sorted the laundry and Mr Savvy logs out from work we'll be going down there for lunch, we ca...

The pub opposite is called The Golden Lion. A good old boozer as you say but I must point out that although the Sunday Lunch is cheap, we were very dissapointed last time we ate one there. Dry, overcooked chicken and 'boiled to a pulp' vegetables. St Patrick's night is a fab night there with live mu...

Open House Weekend

This weekend is Open House Weekend. I have had a look and there doesn't seem to be anywhere this side of the river this year (a couple of years ago we had a good old nosey around the old 'Bovril' building near Kings Hall School but it doesn't seem to be open this time). Does anyone know of anywhere ...

Yes it is such a shame that the conservation order wasn't slapped on before. My worry is how long will it all take. Even if it they are committed to a speedy decision (and of course they'll say they ARE) it could take ages for them to come up with a plan, then it has to be approved etc etc... Is it ...

As the Greyhound cannot be knocked down (hurrah!) it wll mean that any plans to do so by the developers have been scuppered, yes? I presume that they are most unhappy by this and I worry what will happen next. What if they have no revised plan? What if they just do nothing and let it rot? Are they i...
