Re: Helicopter over the Hillcrest estate
The @NPASLondon twitter feed says they were searching for suspects in a burglary in the (London Borough of) Bromley. That could have been it as you are close enough to the border.

It’s perfectly lawful to allow your horse to soil the highway and not clear it up.

Re: Feeling emotional…
Farewell, where are you off to?
Also, just because you leave Sydenham it doesn’t mean you can’t frequent this place. I left 7 1/2 years ago but never really left here. (I do still have cause to frequent Sydenham every couple of weeks, however)

It's pretty disgraceful isn't it. I never did get a reply to my (several) emails to the se23.com admin. It appears I have now been permanently banned without any communication whatsoever.

This timely and related article just popped up on my “news feed”: 'Nimby' councils face new sanctions for failing to meet home building targets - Evening Standard https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/nimby-councils-face-new-sanctions-for-failing-to-meet-home-building-targets-a3780851.html The r...

Re: se23.com - an exile from the north speaks out
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I’ve just had a very bizarre experience with SE23.com. I’ve been a member for years but rarely post. I recently noticed that the Forest Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team from the police were giving regular updates. The username was of Sgt Biddle with his picture ...

Re: 20 mph speed limits
Speeding in Sydenham seems to be getting worse by the day. Why arent the police doing more about this? Surely, mobile speed cameras are an easy solution. Who can we escalate this to, before we see more carnage on the roads. God help the day a family or small children are seriously injured or killed...

Re: Council housing and the Sydenham Society
Why did it close down in the first place? I thought we had an ageing population and that sheltered accommodation is in demand?
I did pass it on Saturday and it did appear to be an eyesore and a waste of space.

Re: B&Q
I was successful in getting the cowboy parking firm to withdraw the ticket. For the rather rude person who asked... The Mitchells and Butlers' case was many years ago. I made the points contained in my first post to them... and more. I don't quite see where I was rude requesting the name of the cas...

That price for a one bedroom flat is insane. What sane person would pay that?!
Re: B&Q
? are you saying, according to the outcome of the case you cited, someone can park on my drive if it is accessible? you didn't say if you had a disabled badge displayed or not? Actually, there's very little stopp No someone parking on your drive. It's a civil matter so the police can't get involved...
Re: B&Q
UKPC have no lawful authority to issue tickets. You should refuse to pay. Cite a decision in the House of Lords in a case against Mitchells and Butlers Brewery. It was ruled that anyone has a right to park on any land they can access. To prevent parking the owner must make it impossible to access t...

Begging is a criminal offence contrary to s.3 of The Vagrancy Act 1824. If they are persistent/aggressive then report to the police.

Re: 51 Knighton Park Road.
There doesn't appear to be a breach of the peace in what was originally posted. A breach of the peace, in law, essentially is when physical harm is done or likely be done (R v Howell). It doesn't mean that people aren't respecting "peace and quiet". In terms of if it was an unlicensed paid...

Re: 51 Knighton Park Road.
"and the police say that they can't do much about i" truly pathetic.....if they want to do something they can, they obviously dont.... It's hardly "pathetic" or the police's fault if they have not been granted the powers to deal with a particular issue. If it is just a case of n...

Re: 20 mph speed limits
No of course it doesn't. Indeed, it always used to be policy that 20mph limits weren't actively policed and they should "self policing" by ergonomic measures to alter behaviour. However, I don't know whether any speed surveys have been done, where they may have been done, or by which agency.

Re: 20 mph speed limits
I did an FOI request to the Met that I got back a few weeks ago asking for the number of drivers ticketed or prosecuted in the first six months of the 20mph scheme being in operation. The answer was 8. One issue I have is that the signage doesn't appear consistent: there are several points across th...

Interestingly it was a licensed premises until relatively recently. It was an off license until probably the early 2000s. The cellar door is still in the pavement.
