Lewisham Local Plan
The local plan is up for consultation on Commonplace: https://lewishamlocalplan.commonplace.is Somewhat annoyingly to my mind, it splits things so that Sydenham is in with Forest Hill and Brockley as Lewisham West, but Perry Vale is split between West and South, while Bell Green, Bellingham and Sout...

Re: When did West Hill become Westwood Hill please? I've not been able to find an answer online
There was a big run of road name changes in the first half of the 20th century, stemming from London County Council, which aimed to de-duplicate road names across the LCC area. They published volumes of street names and street name changes, which aren't available online, but which give the exact dat...

Re: Sewer/drain location maps within home boundaries
When was your house built? From the 1880s onwards plans for drainage were submitted to local authorities, so Lewisham Archives will have them, but they may not have more recent ones. I think the archives are closed at the moment, but they might be able to help if you email them: https://lewisham.gov...

Re: Panmure Road
Have a look at https://www.layersoflondon.org/ - you can layer old maps over the current one, and it includes the bomb damage maps and the post-war RAF aerial photos of London. The aerial photos are incredible for the road as it shows the bomb damage really clearly. The older maps (1890s) also show ...

As a former London local archivist, this looks brilliant! I will have to see if I can get myself a copy (because I'm geeky like that). Thank you

Re: Restaurants and Pubs - the New Norm
I'm pleased they're both doing well, and will be trying to visit soon. I am a bit gutted that the Dolphin's menu is now pizza though - I mostly can't eat dairy so pubs that only do pizza are a terrible option for me. I really like the pub though!

Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic
There are obviously things which must be monitored and acted upon by the council during the consultation time, such as whether the research which shows this will reduce traffic over time is true for here. Also, do the traffic lights in the area need adjusting, I think they do. Do we need as many pe...

It's so nice to have good news about businesses coming to the High Street! And it looks like it will complement what we already have, which is great.

Re: Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic
For me, what's not to like is that not enough thought seems to have gone into the impact of where traffic will inevitably go instead. I'm concerned about an increase in traffic and air pollution in and around Mayow Road. I'm very much in favour of a reduction in car use, I don't own a car and think ...

Consultation on Proposal to Close Silverdale/Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic
There are a series of proposals on road closures in Lewisham to support walking and cycling in the wake of Covid-19. One of the proposals is to close SIlverdale and Bishopsthorpe Road to traffic. Re: Sockpuppets on t'other forum
I'd like that, Robin! Forum wars are unhelpful for everyone - and a locally run forum is a good thing. I've found STF useful since I moved here and would like to see it continue to do well! I'd certainly like to see eg the Syd Soc and other local groups contributing more here, and more of the sterli...

Re: Dylon works - FT reports L&Q buying bulk for social housing
Developers have won their appeal against Bromley Council and are now intending to build a new development of 254 units. Can't see the point in the current market when much of the first phase had to be sold off for social housing because they couldn't get rid of them, plus, long term, there are plan...

Re: Crystal Palace Park dinosaurs
Dammit, I didn't realise it had done that. Apologies! All the Councils seem to use the same planning website software, and it's not the easiest to link to .
The reference is: 20/00325/OUT
There are about 200 documents related to the case, so it's going to need some time to go through.

I do think that it is a great shame that Sydenham Society does not post on here along with any other relevant social media ...to extend their reach for information sharing. Agreed. Regardless of the other issues with where it has been posted, surely they should be trying to reach as far as possible?

Re: New shop opening?
The whole thing seems to be "number 56", and one of the sections of the plan has the area fronting Sydenham Road still marked as retail. The permission paperwork is for the building at the back, but there's definitely no change of use included. in fact, the form even says: "There is n...
