Re: Toys R Us

I agree with Lifelike about the bakerloo line being held up by huge redevelopment issues. Just look at the Southend rd railway bridge, which is regularly hit by over height vehicles and lorries. It would take a complete rebuild to solve the issues, and the tube doesn't want to run over unreliable tr...

Thanks to all at the Poodle Club for a hilarious evening tonight. My first visit, but I'll be back soon, especially if you rebook Steve Best - he was brilliant.

Re: Toys R Us

Absolutely, that must be the reason. Financially it is a no-brainer for Sainsbury's, but given their high profile and social responsibility claims, I doubt whether they would like this to be publicised. Given the pressure that government is beginning to exert on land banking, it might be possible to...

Re: Sydenham Society

This is all getting rather over-complex. Why not simply have a thread on which current planning issues are listed? Then anyone can check it out in good time, amd anyone with an issue coil's let the Syd Soc know their feelings about it. There is no need to duplicate info available on Lewisham's plann...

Re: Toys R Us

Unfortunately, I gather that Sainsbury's, who owned the land, ensured that these units were for non-food use only. This rules out Aldi, which explains their attempts to demolish the gasholders. I think it would be interesting if the Syd Soc would consider a petition to Saintsbury's, asking to review...

Re: sticky:Mural?

The sneaky preview would look fabulous on the trackside wall where the graffiti was covered up. I know it has been relegated due to access issues, but how about timing it to coincide with track closures? For instance, the Christmas / New year shutdown? I can't see it working on the panelled wall; co...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

Aaaargh! The thought of the greyhounds being painted in life-like colour makes me queasy. They would end up looking like rocking horses. Even in stone colour, it's going to be interesting seeing how they manage children who want to 'ride' them. Given their age, they are unlikely to survive loopthe e...

Re: Mural?

Sorry that my posts seem to have raised hackles. I asked Chris Best solely because it was repeatedly stated that she was opposed, and that made that choice problematic. It seemed unlikely, so I checked whether it was true. It isn't. This is a public forum, and it would be a shame if new participants...

Re: Mural?

Dear all I have asked Chris Best, and she said she has no problems with the bridge having a mural (subject to the usual legalities, naturally). That seems to make this the perfect spot. While it is smaller than ideal, it is likely to be seen by more people than any other site can offer. It is a park...

Re: Mural?

Sorry to be a pain. I just feel that the proposed mural could be better. I love the design, but don't think it will look good on that particular wall. The first versions were done on walls with larger flat surfaces. Painted at the size you suggest, it will spread across several different panels, whi...

Re: Mural?

How visible would a station wall be from the high street? The Turdis must get in the way? I still think this project would be most effective on the high level spaces. Can the previous group be asked if they are in a position to proceed? I know this option would be difficult to deliver, but it has th...

Re: Mural?

I am a big fan of the Catford bridge murals etc, but feel that the Sydenham station area is not suited to the large scale format. In Catford the road is much wider and the sightlines are much longer. I think it is best seen from cars and buses, as you move down the road. Why not think about work tha...

Re: Mural?

I think the bridge itself would be a good site, perhaps within the recessed panels? Different panels could show the different transport methods that have passed underneath. First the canal, then atmospheric railway, then steam and so on up to the Overground trains.

Um, what about alerting the tax and Excise men that a business is trading there, with no apparent license. They don't like losing out on their revenue. What's the chances that such an outfit is actually paying their dues?

As soon as the blockage is cleared Healthmatic will get the w.c. back in service. Highways have been made aw...

Redevelopment of St Philip Neri school - Fairlawn Park

The plans for the redevelopment of St Philip Neri school are now available online at Lewisham planning. Residents of Fairlawn Park need to check them out for possible noise, traffic and parking problems, especially those whose homes back onto the school site. http://planning.lewisham.gov.uk/online-a...

Re: Philip Neri School building works

I live on Fairlawn Park, and am very worried about these developments. Given the problems caused by parents double parking at the moment, it was dissappointing at the public planning event to see that no thought had gone into this issue. Doubling the number of children by bringing the infants to the...
