To answer nork1 directly I had simply never heard of it and given I only ever go to that part of Sydenham for the Doctors there was no chance to 'happen' upon it. If there was talk of it on the STF I missed it. It's a shame but it does highlight how important it is to advertise yourself - especially...

I agree with whispy wonder. This is typical of Lewisham council's planning department. Cram as many dwellings into a structure that is so unsympathetic to it's surroundings. Once this has been built it will open the floodgates to other sites in the vicinity, namely junction of Tredown road and Newl...

It is. Lots of Peter and Janes are heading off to the seaside on their annual migration also. Although until Five Go Mad In Droitwich Close* and all we hear is "ham and turkey sandwiches, bags of lettuce, hard-boiled eggs, heaps of tomato, and lashings of ginger beer" then we'll not yet be...

I'm sorry Wispy Wonder, I'd love to concur with your views but I simply cannot. Just so you know, I am the biggest architectural snob you're ever likely to meet. If it isn't Georgian, Victorian or Edwardian then I am not interested. I abhor most of the 20th Century's stock. That is not to say they a...

I am still not sure if your elderly acquaintances are exctracting the proverbial Eagle or are so far removed from reality it's unreal. NOW - I can see how they view the unceasing march and encroachment of the automobile as an irritant. I'm sure they remember fondly when cars where rare and something...

Anyway, what people fail to grasp is that there are between 15,000 and 20,000 people living in Sydenham, of which a minority come on here demanding "porper shops" while the vast majority want discounted international phone cards; fried chicken and cheap consumables from £1 shops. I'd cert...

You are right in your examples there bensonby but as with any argument you choose specific examples to lend credence to your argument. Nothing wrong with that. I cannot comment on the establishments in and around Home Park as I am rarely, if ever, there. But if we look at the High St that chicken sh...

we used to have variety....huge variety....abotu 15-20 years ago. Lots of the "interesting" shops closed down because they didn't make enough money. They didn't make enough money because there wasn't a demand for them. There is however a demand for estate agents, chicken shops, barbers an...

what's wrong with the Golden Lion? I can't think of anything worse than "a bar" if you would like "a bar" then why don't you move to Cla'am? The reason that there are lots of cheap chicken shops and pound shops nearby is that, apparently, is what local people want. No Bensonby. ...

I thought the post by Emmale was quite confused and bizarre. The poster states it is "...also the most pleasant way to get from Forest Hill to East Dulwich and when you do get to the Dulwich side, there is a marvellous area of pretty allotments to wander around, from which you may take in "...

Perhaps the ladies in question could just grow their hedges up higher than 5 or 6ft thus removing the 'distressing' view? Assuming this wouldn't block out natural light. Failing that they could just dip their net curtains in tea, smoke incessantly, have bread 'n' dripping for supper, turn the wirele...

I am sorry but I think the previous posters are misguided. As Sydenham resident, I think the plans to close Queensthorpe Road and narrow Sydenham road and the other so called improvements will just make acess more difficult for the Police,Emergency services and residents. This so call improvement i...

Sydenham on Watchdog, Thursday 22nd October, BBC1

I am not sure if any sharp-eyed members of the forum noticed but Sydders was on Watchdog yesterday evening. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00nfsjf/Watchdog_22_10_2009/ I know this as they actually filmed outside my home and, briefly, from inside it. Now for the context. The 'Rogue Trader' in ...

Aaah. You had me all excited about a lost Sydenham Town Hall budwesier. As it turns out you meant the Wesley Hall Methodist Church which is where you described. It seems to be in fairly good nick and is no longer boarded up. I don't know if it gets used. Every time I walk past the place I think of t...

The Two Half's is unfortunately still there budweiser. It's directly opposite the entrance to Queensthorpe Road. To try and explain, if you go UP Sydenham Road it sits on the left between Tannsfield Road and Newlands Park.

Anyway, is this where the Town Hall stood budweiser?

I must admit the last time I went in 'Sugahill' it was trading as Zucker. Tells you how long ago that was. I much preferred the previous name - especially as it is German for sugar. I like Kente, a lot. I've been in many times and it's mercifully getting busier. No doubt the removal of the ro...
