This year it is Aug 31, 11.00 - 15.00. It will include a fruit and veg show and many of the same sort of attractions as...

I think I have to listen to my daughter in a concert that night, but I'd like to pop in at the Dolphin afterwards

Some day our gate will come!

I have just been speaking to an officer at Lewisham Council Roads and Transport department. He confirms that Transport for London, who will be taking over the station (next year, I think) are in touch with the council about putting in a gate line on the up platform side. He says the plans are a bit ...

Steady on there Lee! This is not a SydSoc discussion, and any feeling that it was might put some people off contributing.

Demolition unlikely before September

At the stakeholders meeting last night, it is clear that the Council has undertaken not to take a decision to demolish until there is a report to the Mayor and Cabinet which provides the results of the initial design and feasibility work on a new build pool/leisure centre. This meeting is unlikely t...

Not being negative

Leaf, rebelmc I don't think you are being negative. Lee spoke to me some time ago on this subject, and to be honest I didn't have a very good idea; we don't have an obvious local symbol, and in fact, SydSoc membership cards resort to borrowing the very strong but not exactly Sydenham symbol of the C...

Not to be forgotten

Nasaroc Scott is away for a few days, but I know he has produced his own list of bullet points from the 'Business and Enterprise' table at the Assembly, and will be checking them with others who were on the table, including our town centre manager. So they will not be forgotten. In fact, I would haz...

Southern getting ready to close gate ...

Yesterday I noticed someone putting in some cabling to the gate on platform one. He said it was for the new intercom for when the gate would be closed - probably the middle of next week. He also added that these systems never worked anyway. We know that, but what does it take for Southern to learn?

Southwark and Lordship Lane

Eileen: Much as I hate to disagree with Nasaroc, I think you're right there. When I was active in Southwark, and trying to create a community web site http://www.dulwich.co.uk I was under the impression that Southwark Council were completely blind-sided by the renaissance of Lordship Lane, and that ...

Forest Hill Pools

For the record, and for the stimulation of thoughtful and constructive comments, here is a link to a pdf as posted on SE23.com of notes taken at the last Forest Hill Pools Stakeholders meeting. http://www.se23.com/forum/attachment.php?aid=82 . Although these notes were in the first place made by Pen...

"Keeping Shop"

Since this is developing into a local shop memory jogging exercise, I wonder how many people have seen the exhibition of photographs, "Keeping Shop" on display at Sydenham Library, and if so, what you think of it. And if not, why not go and have a look? The photographer's web site is http:...

Saturday morning, Mayow Park

Would another quick plug for the Mayow Park / Dacres Wood Reserve Tree Walk, this Saturday, 9.30 outside the Bowls Pavilion count as abuse of this thread? Hope to see lots of people there. http://www.lund.co.uk/images/EarlySeasonOaksPicasa.jpg It's bit leafier than this now, but still beautiful. The...

Not wildly enthusiastic ...

Sophie I first became aware of LETS in 96/97. I think they're a sort of technological fix for people who don't know much about technology. If you want examples of moneyless trade / exchange schemes, I could point out three among my immediate neighbours - e.g one neighbour mows another's lawn for usi...

Gardens and gardeners

mysti77 I'm on the committee of an allotment association (and please come to our Open Day tomorrow - 11.00 - 15.00, 91/93 Kent House Road) and I'm very interested by how people get on when they take on a new garden, because, sadly, some of our new tenants don't know what they are doing. A remark mad...

Talking with the High Street Renewal Proposals

I think mine was the third name signed in at the Naborhood Centre last night to look at the exhibition of the proposals, and one more came in later. So a good opportunity for me to talk to Ian Plowright, who is the lead Lewisham planner on this project. I passed on to him the general feel from this ...

Letter to Jim Dowd, MP

The chairs of the Sydenham Society and Forest Hill Society have just sent this email to our MP, Jim Dowd: Dear Jim: As Chairs of the Sydenham and Forest Hill Societies we are extremely concerned by the decision of Southern Railway to reduce passenger access to our two very busy stations without form...
