Freelancer/home worker meet-ups?
I used to see an ad on the Virtual Norwood forum for a weekly meet-up for freelancers and other people working from home so they could get out of the house and talk to people rather than turning quietly mad with the isolation. Does anyone know of anything similar in the Sydenham area?

Re: tfl journey planner bias
Oh, and I also want to know what's going to happen when there are no SouthEastern trains stopping at London Bridge because of the redevelopment and everyone who wants to change is forced to use the Tube. Will Boris tweak the computers so that we still pay however much it is to go Charing Cross>Londo...

Re: tfl journey planner bias
You also need to watch out for the FareFinder. I've had it quote me the odd truly ludicrous fare. Plus, I once did a trip from Wimbledon > Tulse Hill > Birkbeck (Z3/4), and got charged for a route via Clapham Junction (Z2/3/4), despite the fact that i) it wasn't physically possible to do it that qui...

Re: Cashless-only buses - TfL consultation
I think, if TfL do press ahead with this, that their drivers will have to use a lot more discretion (compassion?) than they do at present. Suppose you get mugged late at night, and your wallet/handbag with your Oystercard *and* contactless payment card (if you have such - they are still few and far ...

Re: Cashless-only buses - TfL consultation
The cashless fare is £1 cheaper than cash - So, far all of these poor people who might not be able to afford a £5 deposit for an Oyster card. I would ask, how can they afford not to get one? Because, as I indicated above, they may not be able to put together sufficient cash at one time to pay for t...

Re: Cashless-only buses - TfL consultation
I think one of my concerns is those poor people (and I mean poor) who can't actually scrape together enough cash in one go to actually *buy* the Oystercard in the first place *and* top up £5 at the same time. They're the ones I see already having to fork out £1 over the odds to get on the bus in the...

Cashless-only buses - TfL consultation
Transport for London is giving serious consideration to removing all options to pay by cash from its buses in 2014, and is currently consulting on the proposals. This is your chance to have your say on the matter: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/buses/cashless Deadline is 11th October. Anybody want...

Penge High Street closed
Been meaning to post about this all week, and I suspect that most people who need to know probably already do, but: Penge High Street is closed southbound, more or less outside Sainsbury's, due to a collapsed sewer. The main effect on Sydenhamites, I would expect, is that the 194 bus, being a double...

Thanks for the warning. A shame they couldn't have provided a more useful illustration: I'm not planning on getting that up-close-and-personal with them, but an overall view would have been helpful.

Postal delays?
I've had a couple of rental DVDs which have taken days and days to turn up rather than the usual 1 day on first class. I initially assumed that the problem was at the other end, but am now starting to wonder. A newsletter arriving today containing details of a meeting which actually took place yeste...

Re: Sydenham under a new flight path?
JRobinson could be right, although may not be. All I know is that when I'm sitting by the window working I see quite a few planes flying over, but then I've only been living here full-time for a few months, so may just be more sensitive to it.

Re: Planning change - democracy denied?
Doesn't sound good. I've not as yet had any dealings with Lewisham, but earlier experience with Bromley is that a) only 3 properties on either side of the site get notified, even about something major like a new development (we had to notify neighbours ourselves about what would have been a major re...

Re: Sydenham under a new flight path?
I've recently noticed a fair number flying what appears to be roughly parallel to Sydenham High Street - northwards. Not sure whether it's any more than usual, or whether I've just become more conscious of them.

Re: Hello there Sydenham! Tell me about yourself
I too was going to recommend the Alexandra Rec for dog-walking: it has a nice little circuit, so you can go round it as many times as you feel like. Or even, if you happen to be at the Penge East end, cross over the railway, go onto the main road and there's another park - I forget the name - on the...

Didn't realise they were that wide-ranging. Thanks. Still rather the wrong side of the railway for me, though.

Re: Wednesday 21 August - Celebrate One Year of SEE3
Okay, this is where I finally decide to put my hand up and in embarrassment ask what SEE3 is. (Bear with me: I've only been living in Sydenham a few months). I see the term being bandied around the forum a lot, but never an explanation. Presumably something to do with the regeneration of Sydenham?

Re: New street lights
I'm a bit bemused by all this "new street lights" business, because when I come out of Penge East station I see signs up that work is due to start. Yet Penge East and its environs are in Bromley Borough, and the new lights are supposed to be a joint endeavour between Lewisham and Croydon?
