Re: Parking problems
As someone who lives in an area of very restricted on-street parking that often means we can't leave the car near the house I struggle to understand the ire. It's a public road. You do not own it. The person who lives elsewhere pays as much for that road as you do. I fail to see how outrageously sel...

Re: Closure of Lawrie Pk Road
Isn't that a bit of an abuse of process though? The reason they need to make an order and specific date/length etc is, presumably, to give people notice etc. If they are just issuing a "blanket" order then it surely defeats the point and allows them to close the road when they like for how...

Re: Thinking of moving to Lower Sydenham
Mormead Road is really on the Bellingham Estate: a large sprawling 1920's(?) development. It does have some issues around anti social behaviour etc. but, then again, what areas don't.
Go for a wander late afternoon and into the evening and get a feel for the place.

I can second that. I grew up having my hair cut at that shop and even after I moved out of the area in 2010 I still went back quite often to have my hair cut by John or Michael. Nice chaps.

Re: Car in Venner Square
Where am I when I am needed? Not in Sydenham as often as I used to be. Is it an offence? Probably not. The two relevant offences that potentially spring to mind are: Taking a Conveyance (s.12 of the Theft Act 1968) - but that would require it being moved for "someone's use". Just moving it...

The CCTV belongs to and is operated by the council. The prosecuting authority for fly tipping lies with the council. I fail to see what the police have go to do with it at all...

Re: Hyde Housing are awful
It's not up to me to take them to court, it's up to them to pay. Er, isn't that what small claims courts are for? Forcing people to pay for things that they otherwise fail to pay for? The process is pretty straightforward and you can do it yourself. See here: https://www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for...

Why have you waited so long to take them to court? It's a relatively straightforward process to file a small claims court claim.

Re: Sydenham High St Stabbing
Yes. It is illegal at all times but are you seriously suggesting it's worth precipitating a riot for the sake of a bit of cannabis?
Police have discretion when it comes to executing their duties: it is neither feasible nor desirable to enforce all laws all of the time.

Re: Mounted police
When I lived in Sydenham I used to quite often see their horse box parked on Mayow Road whilst they exercised the horses in the park. They are based at Lewisham and I believe they rotate where they take the across the local area. They may also be specifically tasked too - so it could be linked to th...

Re: Another violent incident on Sydenham high street
I never see beat bobbies walking around. not enough police presence. You could increase the numbers of foot-patrolling officers tenfold and there wouldn't be "enough". Officers on foot patrol rarely actually come across or are near to a crime in progress. It has its place: and there are l...

Re: Sydenham High St Stabbing
It would hardly be proportionate and would probably be counter-productive to have numerous police officers wading into a crowd of mourners to make arrests for cannabis possession: you'd probably start a riot and have more issues on your hands.

More pertinently: are the 15k new dwellings (with circa 30k more people) going to be accompanied by a corresponding increase in infrastructure? Trains are already heaving, hospital queues are already too long, you can't get children into primary schools and good luck getting a GP appointment this we...

Re: From Police Station to Crime Hotspot?
Crime hotspot? Not according to the Met Police crime map Police statistics? And interesting that the very place where people might go to report the crime is closed. Sydenham Police Station front office was virtually unused in the final couple of years of its life. The proportion of crimes reported ...

Re: Yet another bad smash in Lawrie Park Road
There used to be a rule of not parking within a certain distance of a junction. I've forgotten it. I guess few now learn it. No one enforces it. I've given tickets for it before. Funnily enough police can't enforce double-yellow lines but the only parking ticket they can give out is one for "u...

Re: The Talma (9-May-1958)
I was at Brookwood Cemetery today and came across the memorial and mass grave for this crash, along with two others of the same era. It was a pretty sorry sight: a neglected, forgotten and falling apart set of memorials. I decided to research each of the crashes to find out what happened.

Re: The Talma (9-May-1958)
Sorry to resurrect a really old thread but I found the following extract from the Daily Mirror on the 5th of June 1967 when I was doing some research on another website. I then wondered if there was any reference to it on this forum which lead me to this thread: _____________________________________...

Re: Dangerous Dog Baxter's Field
Under s.10 of the same act the meaning of "dangerously out of control" has to include some element that the behaviour is directed at a person. It need not injure the person but a person must reasonably apprehend that the dog is going to cause them harm. So as I said, if the behaviour is pu...
