Re: 255-269 Sydenham Road - Planning Application
I know this is slightly off topic , but can anyone explain to me why so many flats/houses are being built in sydenham at a time when housing market is stagnent/falling? Hi, Parklife. Your question can, in some way, be explained by the increase in business rates covering empty properties under Gordo...

Re: Know anyone who can anyone fix an electric cooker?
I've just had a nice home made pizza cooked 50% by my oven which has decided to stop working Pissed!! I can't think what's worse - realising you've run-out of toilet roll immediately after a critical visit/push, or your oven croking on you halfway through cooking a pizza? I'm no expert, Giddysquid,...

Re: Tree down on Sydenham Hill
Robin Hood was (supposedly) an outlaw, Eagle. Besides, King John was half French, thus rendering him an inherently feckless, bone-idle deviant, too consumed by his quest of self-indulgance to oversee the removal of a tree obstructing the King's highway. Typical of that sort, I'm afraid. In any case,...

Re: Sydenham crook gets another 5 years........
Indeed, Eagle! Indeed! He should've got the rope! Honestly, I don't see why we can't just fence of a remote island in the Hebrides and leave the inmates to their own devices. Or possibly use them as unwilling human guinea pigs in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. Seriously, if I were in c...

Re: Kirkdale Village – Street Beautification Project
Volunteers do get something out of it - the satisfaction from having volunteered. There is no such thing as true altruism. I don't doubt for one second that volunteers take enormous personal satisfaction from sacrificing their free time to help towards a cause they feel justifies the volunteer help...

Angela (STF's latest arrival), You needn't be so reticent, in that there's no need to send private messages but delete them before I get a chance to read them. I won't divulge the contents, if that's what you worried about. P.s. I may be wrong, but I posted this notification here as I suspect that ...

Re: Kirkdale Village – Street Beautification Project
Tim, I think you're labouring under the misconception of 'they're just a group of impoverished shop owners asking for a helping hand'. Yes, individually they've thrown their dice and set-up shop in Kirkdale. But, as a collective entity who are asking for assistance in establishing a nice, tidy new i...

Re: Kirkdale Village – Street Beautification Project
Lol, my time is limited Wolfie Which is exactly my point, Lee. I can understand that some ventures i.e - charities, local campaigns and not-for-profit community regeneration et al ask the community for an unpaid helping hand. This Kirkdale Village idea, however, is a bit of a grey area, in my opini...

Re: Kirkdale Village – Street Beautification Project
Totally agree Stuart. This isn't gentrification, it's plating some flowers and clearing away litter. the group would tackle the following issues and will be supported by the traders • Flower boxes • Hanging Baskets • Fly posting • Fly tipping • Street clearing • Campaigning for Christmas lights Wha...

Re: Kirkdale Village – Street Beautification Project
I have no problem with gentrification, Tim, just as long as it doesn't take advantage of the volunteers' goodwill. True, they'll benefit from any aethetical improvements, but the estate agents will be making more of a profit of off the volunteers' hard, unpaid work. That seems a little unfair, to me...

Re: Kirkdale Village – Street Beautification Project
Forgive me for being sceptical, Jotbot, but from what I've read outside of the local forums on the "Kirkdale Village" idea, a lot of it appears to be promoted by a certain estate agent. The logo was even created by a man working for the same estate agent. You'll have to accomodate further ...

Re: Valerie Tryon concert Sunday 12 June
I can just picture the scene. Ensconced in his favourite armchair, wearing his favourite woolen socks and with his eyes closed, Robin's head rocks and twitches in harmony with the dramatic and emotive concerto. A small, solitary tear rolls down his cheek.

Mesmerizing, I'm sure.
Robin, have you ever considered changing your username to Rhapsody Orton instead of the comparatively bland nom de plume that you currently contribute under?

Re: Pat Trembath MBE
Apart from being awarded a well-deserved OBE from Her Majesty, Dame Trembath bears the even greater honour of being one of the virtual Sydenham's only users to have met me in the flesh. Timmy Lund was dumb-struck in awe as I proffered my hand for campaigning maiden to lightly brush her lips against ...

Re: Unnecessary Censorship?
Contrary to what my OP may suggest, Chris, I haven't been hurt by any comments levelled against myself during my tenure on Sydenham Town Forum. If I had, I would've requested the offending aspersions to be removed. But I haven't, and never will, called for the censorship of a fellow user, even if th...

Re: Unnecessary Censorship?
I understand your reference to a referee, ALIB, but in this context a referee's discretion doesn't really apply. Seeing as there's no real or tangible outcome, or an award that's at stake, except, perhaps, the seemingly fragile disposition of an aggressive attacker, who cries foul once on the receiv...

Unnecessary Censorship?
During the course of what can turn into a heated exchange, it's come to my attention that the editorial line is - perhaps inadvertently - turning an exchange of opinions in favour of one party. Say, for instance, that a thread is posted and, for whatever reason, another forum user objects to either ...

Re: ESTATE AGENT SIGNS IN THE HIGH STREET
I know I may have been a bit scornful with regards to your What if campaign/proposals, Lee, but even I can agree that what you're suggesting is much more aesthetically pleasing than a whitewashed window. Not to mention innovative, what with suggesting potential retail options/possibilities to prospe...
