Re: Golden Lion pub
Thanks topofthehill. Sorry Lee but I find your last comment a bit rude and implies to anyone that doesn't know me that I'm always drunk in the pub or go to the pub to get drunk. And don't know what I'm talking about. Which you keep doing around this subject. This actually all this stems from being i...

Re: Golden Lion pub
In case someone is wondering why G-Man is saying I don't believe him, for the record, this isn't exactly what I think. The people who own and run The Dolphin are called 'Inn Public' who also own the Dartmouth Arms and another in East Dulwich. G-Man says that he spoke to someone who says that the Do...

Re: Golden Lion pub
I think most of the points on Wetherspoon's are true on a quick scan. They do have tremendous buying power and sell higher volumes. BUT they know how to keep beer well and have tremendous choice. Anyway, here's an interesting article on Spoons by the beer writer and blogger Pete Brown. http://petebr...

Ha Ha Robbie! And Syd - I found the pics on Twitter. All looks really good. Excited about eating there. Will report back. Here's the chef's twitter feed if you're interested: https://twitter.com/headchefgolden One thing though, went to 161 the other night. They have one beer on tap. Keg. A Canopy IP...

Re: Golden Lion pub
Let us know your thoughts G-Man. The pictures of the Sunday lunch looked good too. Oh and I can highly recommend the Scoth Egg, but at £5 I think the price is a bit steep. HappySyd Hmmm scotch egg. I love a scotch egg. Pictures of Sunday Lunch? Don't tell me their are pictures on the menu? I find t...

Re: Best place locally to fix iPhone glass?
Might be a bit late now but one of the chaps on Sydenham road did mine for £50. The chap in one of the pound shops, he has his little concession in the window. Did it there and then.

Re: Golden Lion pub
I had lunch with my Mum on Friday and it was fab. Steak for me and chicken for mum. Would go back and try the burger, that looked good too. The chef used to work at The Telegraph in Forest Hill and under Mark Hix. I'd like to see the food take off - healthy competition for The Dolphin. HappySyd Tha...

Re: Golden Lion pub
Completely agree on the Beer front Bovine Juice. Just all a bit boring. I think it might be the tied thing. Although they should still be able to get SIBA beers, as they are an Enterprise Inn and most of the great micros are SIBA members. I think I've mentioned this on a previous post.

Re: Golden Lion pub
I think they could nail it with the families market. We all know the Dolphin isn't too keen on children. With that crazy sign on the door. I agree children should be kept under control but the sign could be written in a friendly manner. Cherry and Ice for example had a sign outside a while ago sayin...

Re: Golden Lion pub
When I was in there the function room was a bit of a dumping ground as they got the rest of the pub ready to open, which is completely understandable. I spoke to the barman previously in the Dolphin and he said that they were keeping the function room and expected the film club to continue. So finge...

Re: Golden Lion pub
As Rachael said - the Fish and Chips are excellent and the staff really nice there - I'd happily sit in there and eat if I was in a hurry or just because. I also rate Jerk Nights, the guy who runs it is lovely and the Jerk Chicken excellent. Always a fun atmosphere in there too. Try them Syd - you m...

Re: Golden Lion pub
I spoke to the landlord, he said it isn't finished in there yet.
They will have more screens in the main bar for sports. He also said there will be a small screen in the second bar showing the news.
I think it would be good to have one bar without a television. But that's just me.
Cheers

Re: Golden Lion pub
Actually in here now. It's okay. Big pub without all the nic nacs. Looks quite nice. Beer seems fine and 5 pumps on (just no pump clips). £4.05 a pint for Youngs Hummingbird is a bit steep but kept ok and a nice tipple. It'll get better with age like the Dolphin did looks wise. You should all try it...

Re: Golden Lion pub
Is the new owner the ex owner of The Cherry Tree (formerly the Vale) in East Dulwich? Yeah, apparently. My mate's verdict wasn't that great. Sky Sports on, 80's hits on the stereo and the booze selection wasn't all that - no craft beer - people just use this as a buzz word and don't supply the good...

Re: Golden Lion pub
Lee, Inn Public are the company that run them, I believe they are leased from Enterprise. Or they are tied in a brewery deal with them. Maybe they are owned by Inn Public. Next time you're in there ask one of the managers. I know Enterprise have some control. I confirmed this with them after your pr...

Re: Golden Lion pub
I think the Dolphin's actually owned by Enterprise, hence the beers they sell and the prices they sell at. Same with their other pubs. They are all leased from Enterprise. But yes, I agree with you on the Golden Lion. I'm really looking forward to checking it out. I've said many times on this forum,...
