Re: Sainsbury's Bell Green
I occasionally use the Penge, CP and Bell Green sainos and they all frequently suffer from empty shelf syndrome and the BG and CP ones often have ridiculously long queues. As a company they seem to have lost the plot.

Re: A Leaf out of East Dulwich Forum's book?
Talking about moribund forums, has anyone been on Virtual Norwood recently? :-( That was a great forum. I don't even live in CP but I met a few others via that and as a result formed a neighbouring community group, the PTB. The owner of VN made some terrible decisions though in his efforts to make ...

Re: New St Christopher's Charity Shop
The land is increasingly reverting to a messy eyesore, and people have started to use it as a parking place which means, unless they have a tiny Smart car, that they end up blocking our rear gate and preventing us from using our car. Regards Chris Is it worth putting a polite notice "Gates in ...

Waiting for the Bakerloo is a major long term ambition, surely. Isn't it only coming to Lewisham by 2030 and no guarantees beyond that.

It reopened a few weeks ago. It's great, 2-3 times the size, more seating, good lighting and bigger range of beers.

Re: Penge Indians
There is an eat in option at the Himalayan but with just two tables you may feel a little self conscious.
Himalayan is great though and the 9 veg side dish is wonderful for veggies. Belash is ok for meat dishes but not that spicy and not great for veg. Penge Massala is better but not amazing.

Personally I find booking of tables annoying. I was in there about 8.30 on Sunday night and had to stand because two tables still had Reserved signs on them.

Hi JMLF I live in Penge and am reasonably active within the local community (Chair of the Penge Tourist Board and member of the Town Centre Team). You asked how people get permission from the council/community. Permission hasn't been necessary from the council, mainly because Bromley has very little...

Re: Poodle club
I live just, and I mean just - literally a road, over the border in Penge. I liked the Beer Rebellion and was an occasional visitor. Since it shut down I have rarely thought about heading off to Sydenham as its offering are tired compared to Penge (Alex, Southey Taproom, Goldsmiths, Bridge House, Mo...

Re: Santander's Sydenham branch is closing
Too many young professionals who don't use bank branches any more. I suspect you'll find Catford will go 12 months after Sydenham. The ones that will cling on for a little longer will be in places like West Wickham, Beckenham, Addiscombe, etc where there are more comfortable pensioners and you can s...

There are a few good sit-down eateries in Penge: Thai Delight and Chez Yves on Maple Road, Bella Luna pizza and Sicilian Art pizza on High St and Friends of Flavours on Green Lane. Plus the three gastropubs: Bridge House, Alex and Goldsmiths. I live about 6 mins walk from Penge High St and 10 mins w...

I know exactly who all the hard working traders are who put the extra mile in for the local community events in Penge and they are all independent.
