Penge Day on the High Street

Plenty of craft stalls, food, music, dancing, etc

You can check on the Met Police site and see whether burglaries were reported in May or June in that road.

Went last night. Decent burger. Chips appeared frozen and then oven heated but will let chef comment on that.

Beer was good. Two light hoppy options including a great one from Robinsons.

I've not been in for a couple of weeks so don't know if the beer choice has changed but can I feed back that more variety is needed rather than 5 main stream bitters. Something hoppy would be a good start.

In all probability Enterprise will want to keep at least one of the Sydenham pubs. I suspect they may flog off both of the historically important Penge ones as they are currently terrible and usually empty.

As long as nobody starts peddling the urban myth that Wetherspoons only sells stale beer. The 'spoons in Penge sells fantastic ale - about 16 on draught most nights - for around £2.25 a pint. I drink more often in the Goldsmiths for atmosphere these days but for quality and price the Moon and Stars ...

We get a lot of them in Penge as three individuals feed them.

LK have also just opened one in Carshalton. I guess they probably use the same team to do their renovation work so maybe now we will be the focus of their efforts.

Might be the same as Penge one which is closed for all bar weekend now. They may have over stretched with quite a few outlets across south London and lots of competition

I walked past about 6pm and the firemen were cutting open the car. Couldn't see anybody in it though.

I had a Youngs Hummingbird last night which was decent. They also had Gem from Bath Ales. Two I wouldn't touch with a barge pole because I don't rate, but were also on tap were Courage Best and Doombar.

My first visit tonight. Smells strongly of paint and has a slightly soulless feel to it... but it's a vast improvement and at least two of the four beers on offer were decent choices. A decent alternative to the previously limited options of the Dolphin or, er, the Dolphin.

I like Sydenham but basing an opinion on Penge from 40 years ago is hardly likely to be a good representation of Penge in 2015. I've lived in SE20 for 19 years and it's improved so much in the last 4 or 5. Brilliant community vibe and finally quite a few really nice pubs, cafes and even restaurants ...

The Alex work's not started yet. They say it's likely to open about two months after the Kent House Road one, which makes it about November.

As has been said they are very very local and their bars are always really good, friendly and well stocked with excellent cask ales (round about 8 even for a small bar) and interesting bottled ones.

Planning permission granted for the 12 rooms in the hotel but work has not commenced yet. I think we're looking at a November opening, possibly.
