All of us are persuaded that the current crossing is dangerous. The problem is to apply pressure on the local authority to do something about it? Contributors to this site have two solutions: 1. Move the zebra from the crown of the bridge lower down the hill (towards the front of The Greyhound is a ...

I visited yon new-fangled Somerfield store this morning. What the heck is cracking off?? Out go family-size mushy peas and giant-sized Maltby mutton pies and in comes fire-roasted peppers and goats cheese pizza. Organic this, organic that! If God had meant food to be healthy he wouldn't have invente...

I talked to Henry, our community police officer, about this when we met in Sydenham Road yesterday. It appears that a robbery took place and that a knife was threatened but not brandished or used. Kirkdale should be avoided by lone people after nightfall - walk along Sydenham Road and up one of the ...

morrisons on the move

Whatever may replace Morrison's management of the Sydenham store has got to be better than at present. Their food in particular is so limited and unappealing. Being brought up in Yorkshire is hardly likely to make you a food gourmet. Yorkshire pudding, gravy like crude oil, potatoes like coal, bulle...

Loudspeaker announcements on Platform One

Here is the answer to the question of not being able to hear announcements on Platform One at Sydenham Station, from Matt Ball the station manager: "Barry Milton asked that we install another speaker at the London end of platform 1 at Sydenham Station as passengers complain that they cannot hea...

I think we should all agree that this is a matter of preference. If you find it over expensive or not interesting, then don't go there. I don't think a "country" house in the suburbs can be compared with a modern venue in town.

I must say that I'd never heard of this place either until recently. But looking at the wonderful things on their website and hearing about the place from other who have been there, surely we should welcome such a great venue to our area. Presumably the night club isn't making much disturbance other...

My view on the introduction of charges at Girton road and CPZs very much mirrors what other contributors have been saying - Lewisham council aren't interested in the well-being of this area and CPZs aren't about greater convenience for local residents - this is all about cash and Lewisham as a counc...

I've got a meeting with Matt Ball who is the station manager for this line in about two weeks on behalf of the Sydenham Society and I'll make sure to bring up this subject. I'll let you know what he says.

Proposed charge for Girton Rd CP and Controlled Parking Zone

At the Lewisham Council Mayor and Cabinet meeting on Wednesday evening, measures were proposed which will have profound implications for parking around Sydenham Road and the adjoining streets. 1. Introducing charges for using the Girton Road Car Park Currently this is free thanks to a £16,000 annual...

Dan I too cycle down the spine road towards route 21 and I've also noticed the smell you mention. Perhaps we aren't smelling sewage but some rather more unpleasant things that lie under the Bell Green site. Bell Green was, of course, the site of an old Gas Works. The soil was highly contaminated whi...

new zebra crossing on rail bridge

Like Molly, I too was delighted to see this evening that the crossing had been put out of use by being cordoned off. Hopefully, it does mean that some of our concerns are being listened to before a serious accident occurs - or worse But does it really need all the correspondence on this excellent we...

Zebra Crossing on Railway Bridge

Some good news on the zebra crossing. Thanks to our pressure, the Head of Highways at Lewisham Council has agreed to install two floodlights - one on each side of the crossing. This will certainly help both pedestrians and drivers.

New Zebra Crossing on Railway Bridge

The new Zebra crossing on the brow of the railway bridge is now up and running. It's a much needed addition allowing people to cross Sydenham Road close to the station and giving easier access to the shops on the other side of the road from the station. But is it safe? Drivers have little warning of...

Great News! According to Peter Boxell, Communications Manager of the East London Line Extension (ELLX) the new line is finally being given the go-ahead in the next few weeks and an announcement to this effect will shortly be made by Transport for London (TFL) saying that the line will be in place by...
