Re: Pianos in Sydenham
I've noticed every time I've walked past it that Sydenham Ink, the tattoo parlour on Sydenham Rd opposite Home Park, has an upright piano and two acoustic guitars out next to it. It never looks busy. Maybe they'd let you have a go

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
One thing I was pondering the other day: doesn't the close proximity of the building to the flats behind it make it extremely unlikely that it will ever be a pub again?
I can't see many landlords or even established pub-chains wanting to take it on, given the inevitability of noise complaints.

Re: Where to eat out in Crystal Palace
That's funny, as literally yesterday, on this very forum, I was defending vegetarian restaurants against vaggie-bacon type caricatures, saying that no self-respecting veggie restaurant has served that sort of thing since the mid-80s!
Oh dear, clearly I was wrong...

Re: Sydenham Article
Yes, good stuff. However, as a former vegetarian (lapsed since fatherhood) I feel obliged to take boringly pedantic issue with yr mate Roxy's rather dated veggie-restaurant caricaturing. :D Especially as Calabash of Culture is an African cafe and what with African cuisine known for a strong traditio...

Re: LA Fitness Sydenham becomes Pure Gym
Not used one. Membership looks like it might be quite cheap. Overall I'm disappointed however because, having just moved to the area, I was going to join LA Fitness almost exclusively for its swimming pool. Swimming's my main thing and it would have been a lot more convenient for me than going to Br...

Re: Thinking of setting up a singing group
Regrettably, I don't really have time to commit to a regular singing group, though i do love group singing. But I was idly thinking today it'd be nice if there were an informal carols/christmas songs singing session at some point at the run-up to Christmas. Something that might be family-friendly, b...

Re: The Lewisham Card Has Launched
I asked if they would honour the discount now (we've not paid yet) and they said the card had to be presented at the time of quoting. I now suspect the inflate the quote to make up the discount ☹ of course I have no proof of that! Presenting the card the second you receive the quote surely is "...

Re: Can anybody recommend an estate agent?
="alywin although whether you actually *need* professional-level photos to sell a flat in Syd at the moment is debatable, I should think! There seem to be so few around that I suspect it would be snapped up regardless, as long as the pricing isn't really silly (and maybe even if it is :) ) Thi...

Re: Can anybody recommend an estate agent?
Having recently sold our flat in Brixton and moved to Sydenham, I'd say it's worth getting several different estate agents round to see what they suggest in terms of valuation. The one thing I'd definitely say is this: whoever you go with, don't put your flat on the market between now and Christmas....

Re: Sushi of Sydenham
I went last night for the first time. Had a very enjoyable meal. Though it was a slightly unusual evening, as there was hardly anybody there. So the number of waiting staff outnumbered the diners at times. This meant the staff were maybe a bit over-attentive, whisking away plates and dishes the secon...

Can't help you I'm afraid, but what a great filmography! Best of luck with your search. I'm guessing there are probably also specialist Hammer Horror forums where you could also ask this question? Might also be worth joining the Penge Tourist Board Facebook group as an extra avenue for your search.....

Can't make it unfortunately.
But I remain up for volunteer admin duties. I think I'm more of a spam-clearer than a thread-moderator (I'm often the one requiring moderation)

Re: Cryptic message on Twitter re Late Knights
I don't think there'd be any harm in someone setting up a simple, good-looking magazine-style Sydenham-related website (WordPress or Tumblr) like Penge Tourist Board's. Together with a concomitant Facebook Group. It seems to me that what the majority of people value most about PTB is the Facebook gr...

Re: Recommended Nurseries near Sydenham
We have only just moved to Sydenham (last week) and we struggled to find anywhere that didn't have a long waiting list for our nearly-3-year-old. But you might have better luck in your child's age-group. At any rate, I strongly advise phoning around everywhere first to suss out availability. We were...

Yes, I used an independant damp surveyor once. Academy Remedial. They charged £250. (That's the only annoying thing about an Independant: you get charged quite a bit for the survey and of course it's not a quote for the work that needs doing...) The particular surveyor was called Joe Wilson. If you ...
